Why was a hole not made in the driver's side, the harness fed through and then extended under the steering wheel, across to the ECU location? Wouldn't that be easier [as it would go through the firewall in the same location it is MEANT to go through in it's original car] AND keep a large section of your harness away from any excessive engine compartment heat? Your splices would also be safer behind the dash. I know for a fact that wires can be run between the driver's side and passenger's compartment; I've done wiring down there with ECU, turbo timer, boost controller, boost gauge, stereo and aftermarket alarm. Hell.. take the glove compartment out, remove the dash trim, remove the stereo, pull of the panels from under the steering wheel and have a look.
Is there any reason that people like to go in through the passenger's firewall?

well lets just say you need to pull your motor.
undoing the harness would take and hour if it was routed through the drivers side. look at it from a maintenace pov. it will cost toyota less if had to pull a motor under warrenty. you would have to pull the whole dash to get it out. it might take hours.

also the main junction for relays is on the passenger side and the ecu needs to be near that so that also might play a role in the design.
i know where you are going with this. just extend the damn harness like everyone else. haha. i thought of that too.

My idea, however, was to buy some AMP connectors that would connect right up to the ECU/connectors and make a pin-to-pin extension from just inside the driver's side firewall, all the way across. I am looking at maybe trying to make ECU extensions as well. IF it happens, I'll keep people posted. I'm supposed to be getting my full 2JZ harness and a full JZA70 instrument cluster here soon. Planned on buying these IF possible [might have to buy them in large quantities or pay a nasty cost JUST to have them start the press].
With these, making a harness extension would be CAKE. This is for a 2JZ, but if the cost is not too outrageous, I might try and make a 1JZ extension harness.

When I get done, if he pays shipping, Nick can HAVE my 7M. Wink I don't think he would get mad at all. In fact, Nick almost seemed to embrace the idea of a 2JZ in a MK3, as has been seen in Stenno's 2JZ conversion post.

My engine swap is going to take a LONG time. I'll update as necessary, but I'll have to tell you right now that I am doing this in stages. I am broke, so the parts roundup is going to take all damn year probably. I am buying parts needed slowly. Motor mounts, insulators, bellhousing, flywheel, PS line, oil filter relocation kit, oil pan, and probably an Aristo front clip [Luxury car - less likely to be beat on or raced than a Supra's 2JZ].
Like I said.. I'll keep you posted. Big Grin

1JZ series connectors.. Big Grin Maybe I'll do these, if the price isn't outrageous to get started.
