If I have an 89 Toyota Supra with the 7mgte, Do I need a front clip of the 1JZ?

OR

Could I just purchase the 1jz, tranny, harness, ecu? (http://www.japanmotorimport.com/inventory_details.php?EngineID=46)

What Im pretty much asking is do the ignitor from the 7mgte work with the 1jz.

Im looking at this 89 Turbo targa supra, and I have 4 grand. The guy is selling it for 1500. But I dont want to waste that extra grand on a front clip and just want to get the engine and tranny. I mean the 89 fits the 1jz right? It has the correct crossmember.

Short answer, no. But the igniter from a 95 Avalon or MKIV will. I found that if you ask for 95 Avalon igniter at the junk yard then they are cheaper than requesting a MKIV.

As for the crossmember. Depends on when your car was manufactured for the 89 model. First half either requires custom motor mounts or swapping the crossmeber and using the later mounts(~$90 each). Probably cheaper to make up some custom mounts and forget swapping the crossmember.

If you buy only enigine components then you will have more fabrication to do for power steering, IC etc.

Oh, ok well that helps.

I called the guy that was selling the supra, I did forget to ask what the Mnfct. date was.

The only thing I know that its an 89 turbo, targa...Automatic :-(. with a spare standard tranny.

My next question is can I convert this to a manual with the 1jz front clip? Or will I run into trouble since the clip is right hand drive.

an easy way to tell the difference in the 89 model, is to look at the motor mounts.

Square motor mounts, indicate the older crossmember, which means you will be either making custom mounts, or swapping cross members.

If the motor mounds are round, a JZA70 motor will drop right in.

As for the 5spd conversion, I have heard it can be done from a clip, but I don't know that for a fact.
