I am new to the group. I have a toyota pickup with 22re that has been worked over but with dissapointing power gains. Mods include built head, intake, header, exhaust, underdrive pullies, nitrous, 9 pound flywheel, centerforce clutch, etc. Anyway, I just purchased a 1jz turbo front clip and was wondering if anyone had heard of anyone doing the swap? I know that the 22re to 7m swap is very easy? Anyway, any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

No fair, you took my idea!!!

Anyways I have heard of people swapping 1JZs into 4Runners surprisingly often, but I know nothing of it myself. Were you the one that bought one of Jarco's 1JZ's?

it SHOULD work. you would need to usr the jza70 tach though. the ecu uses a scaled signal from it to proscess the ignition/ timing curve. the trans might need custom mounts and tailshaft though.

It would prob be the same as a 7m swap. Since the 1j and 7m are a close fit too. You should have more space in and under the truck to make fitament mods anyway. Keep it posted, id like to see this.

You cant piss on what you cant catch.

Yeah, I will try and keep you guys posted. I would like to get some pictures up soon. I had a couple other questions. Is the 1jz physically larger than the 7m series motor? Also, I need to convert my water pump from the hydraulic type on the 2jz as I already have an electric fan and will be squeezed for room. Does any one know a good source for parts such as these and any other stock replacement parts. I need a new timing belt, clutch, etc. I have seen clutches for the car for 1500 dollars (just a little out of my price range)! Do they use the same clutch as the 7m? Anyway, sorry for rambling, I will probably rip my motor out this weekend so the sooner I can get info the better. Thanks guys, Matt

Congrats! One of the VERY few to use the search button! Seriously, repetitive questions can get annoying, but I support your idea for the swap completly.

For anyone interested in heavily modifying there pu. I found a company, www.supertmotorsports.com, that builds custom exhaust manifolds for the 2jz motor especially for Toyota Pickups that "Accepts all standard T4 flanged turbos such as Greddy, T78, T88, Turbonetics T series, SP etc." Looks bad ass! There isn't a chance that a 2jz header would bolt up to the 1jz is there?
