Hey guys, just wanna post an update on my 1JZGTE. It's just got into the country and the cars just been delivered. It went straight on the dyno and running 1.2 bar through the T78-33D it pulled 437hp@wheels. It's in dire need of some tuning as it runs as rich as 9:1 when it starts coming on boost, but hopefully once tuned with 1.5 bar it should see 500hp@wheels on a stock bottom end Big Grin

Can you borrow your friends scanner or go to a scanner service shop?

Bottom end is stock, what about cams? Is the head gasket stock?

What RPM does the boost start to come in and what RPM does it very easily rev to ?

Manual or Auto? Is it drivable round town for wife or girlfriend to go shopping?

Thanks for any info.

bottom end is stock, hks 272" cams, hks metal head gasket, boost comes on from about 3000rpm, gives you a massive surge from 4500-6500 where it climbs from 110hp to 437hp and it holds it until 7400rpm and starts to drop off towards the redline. It revs out easily, though at the moment it's got a little flat spot around 4000rpm from the 2 extra injectors being set to "flood" rather than opening progressively.

It's a manual, but runs a 5 speed OS Giken short ratio box with straight cut gears and a triple plate clutch so driveline wise it's not too user friendly for most people, other than that though it's fine to charge around town in as long as you dont mind taking it easy and using your right foot to control your revs and power, no point driving along through the shopping centre carpark, hitting 4500rpm at full noise and loosing traction

Thanks for the excellent info. As you might have guessed from some of my posts I am fairly new to turbo charging, trying to get a clear picture of what upgrade route to go with on my street driven 5sp manual VVTi. Precise comparative information is difficult to find were I live, though I have recently located some helpful people from this forum. I need to get some kind of serious power 450+ RWHP but don't want a car that is a black smoke pumping dog to drive with huge lag. If the degrade in drivability between a T67 and a T78 is only very marginal but has much more HP for not much more money then I might as well go for a T78.

Sorry for more questions, but what computer are you using? The shop where I live deal with and recommend a Greddy E-manage piggy back for a T67 level upgrade, I know I will need bigger injectors for 450 HP but won't need extra injectors at this level. At what level are extra's needed? Don't know if the Greddy E M, just opens extra injectors to flood mode like yours or controls them in some way?

If i was you i'd be going for a T78-29D kit. It's bigger than the T67 kit but has a similar size rear housing, the smaller exhaust housing out of the T78 range which will give you very strong midrange and top end, yet good response for a big turbo down low. At the moment my 1JZGTE is using a remapped stock ecu (remapped by garage saurus) and a hks AIC (additional injector controller). Im planning to replace both of these units with a motec M48 in the near future. The greddy e-manage is a piggy back ecu in that you still retain the standard computer but the e-manage acts as a piggy back computer and controls the air/fuel ratio's and the timing.

You dont really need to run extra injectors, just upgrade them to the correct size. The 1jzgte in my soarer has the standard injectors replaced by 540cc injectors as well as an extra 2 plumbed into the inlet manifold. This was probably done because either 800cc injectors were too expensive, or they were too hard to fine tune. An e-manage should be able to control extra injectors fine. Just remember to get someone who kows how to tune them well to set it up for you

Best of luck
Luke

Thanks again for the advise. I also spoke again to my local upgrade shop, after explaining what I need they also now say the same as you, a T78, so it looks like this is the way to go.

How much is a M48 Motec unit at your place?

Hope to get my car on the dyno within the next two weeks to get a benchmark as it is stock. I still find it difficult to comprehend something in the region of double the RWHP performance from the proposed conversion.

Thanks

John

OK as promised I took my car to the dyno, set stock boost 10 PSI , 36 C ambient temp, 90 RH, 95 RON fuel. Got 249.4 RWHP, would gues this means 310 Flywheel BHP. Fairly flat curve from 3500 to 7200. 170 HP at 3500.

More than what I expected!
