Greetings,

I read the FAQ first but have some further questions. Any answers are greatly appreciated from 1jz owners. Here goes.

I am armed with a budget of roughly $6-7k for my 1j project. That doesn't include car which I will pay for with cash. Just going to buy a beater with manual tranny and targa top.

Do you all think that's enough to do the swap, upgrade the turbos to something a little more powerful (don't have funds for T78, I know), along with intake, exhaust, flysheel, clutch, etc. plus, new black paint, new/lower supension, fix interior parts (new carpeting, sport seats, shift boot, short throw shifter) and any other miscellaneous items (gauges, new wiring, basic stereo system)?

The wheels/ tires I am planning on getting are 17" OZ Superleggera's with Continental tires. I forgot which model. But roughly those are $1400.

Any insight or advice you have to give is HIGHLY appreciated! Thanks a million!

No, I do not think you will have enough.
Most likely you are going to need to spend $1000 for a car at the bare minimum if you want anything semi-decent. Then there is shipping, as your $1k Supra is not going to be able to be driven to where you live. I wouldn't even want to chance it.
Rim and tire package you want is probably about $1500.
Front clip from Jarco - $3500 PLUS shipping.
You are already AT your budget with this.

No the car is NOT included in the 6-7k. That is from a seperate fund. The 6-7k is reserved for only the work on the car not to buy the car.

not really. you only need an air wrench for a few things. you will need a 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19,mm and a 22mm sockets with an extention for those far away bolts. you will need more patients than any thing. and LOTS of electrical tape, and shrink wrap for that harness. you will also need tech support in the form of wire pinout(me or Rick1jz, no longer posts). You could get it done nicly for 7k. i paid 6500 for my CAR, CLIP, full exhaust, intake, resurfacing the flywheel, turboboss motor mounts, turbo timer, egt gauge, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and A/f gauge.
Dont plan on upgrading the turbos though. you will need alot of othe stuff to support that mod.
remeber i paid 6500 to get mine done. of course i got my car for 1500(not running) and the clip for 2600(before the 1jz craze began{ simple economics, supply and demand}.

the jizza is back

The more and more I got to thinking about my budget I realized I stated it wrong. The car is paid for in cash I have in the bank. I can get a 7k loan and make payments, plus have an additional 200-250 to work with each month. The engine is going to have to be swapped by a performance shop, as I do not have the time, space, or skill to do it entirely on my own.

Hmm maybe after all this I won't need to worry about it. Just yesterday a guy put an ad for an '87 Turbo with a new 300+hp motor in the paper. Calling tommorow...... Smile
