I just purchased a '89 Cressida w/ BHG for $550.00 that is in mint condition other than the aforementioned.
I am selling my MK3 Supra Turbo, and already have one serious offer. If that falls thru, I'll post the info in the For Sale area here (offer I have is for 5500, financing is pending for the buyer). Instead of just replacing the head gasket, I am most likely going to swap out the 7M-GE motor for a 1JZ-GTE into this Cressida. Even doing this motor swap, I think I am still going to come out pretty nicely! So expect some questions, and wish me luck! ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

i wish you a long and hard swap. may the gods forever prevent you from completing it. may the wrath of the sold mk3 burn your new car to the ground.

I have always wanted a Cressida, and I know its potential.
Sleeper potential that is, because I intend on leaving it as stock looking as possible. (I hate spending money, and I want a Toyota RWD sedan with some power). I still have my MKIV! ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

How 'bout a 2JZ in there, partner? Hehehe

How much more do you think the 2JZ-GTE would cost to swap in vs the 1JZ-GTE?
I'd of course would rather drop that 2JZ-GTE in there, but I must admit I'd need to find that motor first (along with the ecu and supporting hardware). Also, from my understanding, the A340E tranny in that Cressida, has a different clutch package and cooling, than the MKIV's A340E, which means if I, do some basic upgrades (intake/exhaust), I might be exceeding the cooling capibilities of it? I believe some of the 1JZ combos I have seen for sale, have with it, the A342E, which is supposedly the JDM equivlant of the USDM MKIV's A340E?? Any feedback on this would be great! ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

Nope.. the A343E is a one-off tranny.
The A340E from the 2JZ can be made hybrid with the A340 from an auto MkIII. I believe this is supposed to change the input and output shafts from the MkIII one, with the extra cooling capacity and clutch pack from the MkIV one. Check out Arnout's site. You can get an Aristo front clip for as cheap as $2000 from Venus Auto. They aren't as clean as Jarco's Aristo front clips, but Jarco charges about $3700. |

I will look into those clips...
Another question I have, I know I am going to need to drop the gas tank, and upgrade the fuel pump (I'll most likely go Walbro 255), but do I also need to replace the fuel pressure regulator for a swap or does the motor swap take care of that? ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

I believe the 2JZ will come with it's own FPR and FPD.
I am going to be doing the same with the gas tank - dropping in a single, or maybe dual 255s. They are so tiny! |

pilot bearing, that tells me you have a manual
Sorry I am looking for an Auto for my Cressida however, but it sounds like you have a SWEET setup there. My MK3 sale is pending, I still as of this post have the title and posession of the car, but by this time next week it should be gone, which means I'll be able to take delivery of the Cressida, and purchase a clip. I am still shopping, hoping I can swing the 2JZ, but I know that's a long shot. A local shop that I trust will do the 1JZ swap for me for 535 labor for the 1JZ, and 920 for the 2JZ. (I may go the 1JZ route, and spend the rest of the money upgrading parts on my MKIV Supra), it is in need of a SQBOV, and a boost controller I'll post pics of the Cressida once I have it in about a week or so! ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

I have purchased a 1JZ-GTE motor out of a JZZ30 Soarer (with ecu, uncut wiring harness and A343E tranny).
Let the fun begin! I'll take pics as this project progresses! Only thing I am not totally sure yet on, is how I am going to do the downpipe on this setup. ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

Good luck. If I was further southeast in Florida, I'd be happy to help you out.
My wife leaves tomorrow to hang out with a few friends for a week and I have all of the supplies that I need for the 2JZ harness.. I am going to measure and extend. I bought 500 feet of 18g wire, 300 butt splice connectors, crimp pliers, 100 feet of heat shrink tubing, and a heat gun. I'm still a long way from the swap, but this is a big, important step. I am going to do this differently than most - I am going to make a hole for the harness to enter on the driver's side, and run across behind the dash to the passenger's side. I don't want heat or moisture getting in this at all. I will secure the rubber part of the harness to the body and use caulk or RTV to seal it at the firewall. For the downpipe, you might as well go custom. If it came with a stock downpipe, you can take it to an exhaust shop and tell them that you want the same thing, but with larger mandrel-bent pipes. If you can't.. well, you could try to take the Y-pipe off the turbochargers and take it to an exhaust shop or machine shop for them to at LEAST make a flange. I don't know what your capabilities are, but you might be able to buy some mandrel-bent stainless bends after the engine is in the car, measure the bends and cut each one, then mark them with a marker or something [A meets A, B meets B, etc] for a shop to weld. It could be time consuming, but you will probably come up with a great product. Another option is to get a 1JZ downpipe from greddy/trust, BIC 1JZ downpipe [if he's making them by that time] OR a cheapo EBay downpipe [I think they make them now] and see how it bolts up under the car. From there, modify it to fit. I will be using the measure/cut A-A B-B method for my intercooler piping. Damn.. I need to get an angle grinder with cut-off wheels. |

Looks like I got to do the same thing with my 1JZ! (extend the harness) about 27+ inches.
That 18g wire, is it stranded or solid core that you are using? I picked up my motor today I am currently making a punch list of things I 'should' replace on it before I actually START this swap. Small little nickel and dime things, but in the long run it will make it a happier motor. ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

I am using stranded 18 gauge copper wire; I believe it is the same as what is used in the factory harness. I am used to dealing with both solid and stranded, so this harness is going to be a piece of cake to extend.
We have this cable used for satelite communication which has a solid 8 gauge [yes! That thick!] copper center conductor and a solid copper shield, separated by a styrofoam type insulator. I built a 6 foot cable, soldered pins on it and there was only 0.2 ohms of resistance from condictor to conductor, and shield to shield. Amazing! Seriously though.. that's more than anyone would need for a wiring job. Stranded is easier to work with - it is more flexible, cheaper, and is still as high of quality as I need. I'd take Mil-Spec wire over this stuff, but you don't need mil-spec for auto wiring. Let's face it - this stuff only has to be better or equal to OEM, and I am damn sure it's every bit as good. KC, I wish you the best of luck with your project. What I recommend for you, if you are getting nit-picky about replacing all of the little things: Check compression Timing belt Drop the oil pan and take a look around for anything bigger than metal shavings. Replace all fluids Replace plugs with some decent ones [don't have to go all-out] Maybe buy a bunch of hoses for replacing worn ones from a place like HighTempSilicone? |

I got the timing belt, new serpentine belt, new hoses so far. The compression check should already been done, if not, within the next day or two.
One thing I have noticed, is that I believe I need a front sump oil pan. It looks like the 7M-GE motor that is in my Cressida right now, the oil pan sits infront of the crossmember, where on my MK3 Supra, the pan was behind the crossmember. The Soarer 1JZ-GTE motor's oil pan that I have is a mid-sump, so looks like this is the last major hurdle I have (hopefully). So it looks like I need a 2JZ oil pan that I can setup for front sump use. ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |

It's too bad I am doing my Aristo swap much later, or I'd give you the Aristo oil pan. It may work, and I won't need it.

ahw, bad timing! When are you planning on your swap anyways? I am curious...
Anyways, I have been swapping emails today with BigTSetter and he has the oil pan setup from a JZX90 that will fit my swap application needs (I have already seen the pics and I dropped your name in the process). I also found a setup today from a salvage yard in Lake Worth (about an 1.5 hours away from me), but I rather work with BigTSetter on this (keep it in the Supra community, so to speak).
