I am shoehorning a 1JZ GTE into a non Toyota car and need to modify the oil sump pan to clear the steering rack and cross member, its about a 4" interference problem, the 1JZ confusedsump is at the front of the engine.

I don't think it will be a problem but just wondered if anyone alse has done this kind of job before.

Looks like I will need to refabricate a new pan to clip about 4" of the rear of the pan. New pan will be done in stainless. I have not taken the old pan off yet but I beleive there is already an oil wash baffle plate between the engine lower block and the sump pan.

I will make the new pan about 1 or 2" deeper to compensate for reduced oil volume and extend the pick up to the new deeper level, maybe even have more oil volume than stock.

I would appreciate any comments.

There are several different versions of the 1JZ, including front-sump and mid-sump configurations. If you can get hold of the correct sump (which should be available new from Toyota) you won't have to do any custom fab work. The JZA70 Supra came with a mid-sump engine, so that would be a good place to start.

If what your looking for is a mid mount sump for a 1jz I have one, but I need the front mount. I cant get passed my crossmember without it. I say we have the same problem with and easy solution. TRADE

Thanks for the input and ideas on this, I have now removed the sump from the engine to see what I am faced with inside.

The problem is neither the front sump or the mid sump will fit, but the front sump is better. A mid sump is impossible.

I will need to keep the front sump unit that I have and modify - "clip it" to be even further to the front to clear the steering rack and make it deeper to compansate for volume loss. Looks like the pick up pipe will need to be hand crafted to make it fit nicely though. Sorry I won't be able to trade, that would have been a nice solution.
