depends on the figures you want..

18 psi can be done on stock ECU with a engine mods.. over that and you need standalone.

Adi, will the factory injectors do that 18psi or do you need the jdm 440s?

sorry, i dont come on here as often as i should (i run the UK mk3 supra group so far too busy Big Grin )

Anyway, 440's or 550's depend on whether you've still got the stock map sensor. 440's can be used with the stock map, but a bigger map needs 550's at least.
I wouldnt advise using stock injectors and map for over 15psi.

3bar map needs 550's or above, as does jdm 2JZ 1.3bar... plus an SAFC yes.

However, i have no idea how well a 3bar would work on the stock ECU, in theory yes it will work but with a lot of correction by the SAFC. However, remember at 18psi you may have ignition problems also.

yep, timing. If youre going for 18psi on a stock ECU then i'd suggest an e-manage instead of an SAFC, as the e-manage has ignition correction... howver, there is some talk that after a while the ECU simply reverts back to the original ignition settings, over-riding the e-manage. No-one has really tested it properly.

Its something i'm doing later in the year hopefully, unless of course someone beats me to it.. it'd be interesting to find out.

so the stock ecu goes into a protective mode of some sort?
you have to buy the profec-E1 to control boost right?

For total control, you may just want to get a Haltec system. You know what would be interesting? Wiring an AEM up to a 1JZ. Maybe that will be a project in the far, far future. For now.. I gotta get an engine! Big Grin

Well dammit which one would be the best for us Mad Big Grin. Both me and Andy are planning on going metal turbines on the CT-12a's and will probably end up having the same ECU and overall same exact car. I want to boost maybe 20 psi or so on the metal turbines, but I dont know that I want a standalone only because of their expence. I originally did, but again they can be quite expencive. Oh, all knowing adi, which ECU upgrade will fit our needs?

Im not sure but I think it was some one at toysport that told me that they would make a harness for whatever year sup and make the AEM work with it. $600 for the harness. And whatever the aem unit costs. He said they have already done it and it works good. Big Grin

That would be kick ass. Cuz I was looking at the MAP-ECU but it's more of a "piggyback" not a full EMS.

like i said before(not too sure if i said it here or not; i post on ALL of the supra boards)
i will most likely go haltech e6x for the engine managment issue. FULL stand alone. no BS.
worked over stock twins, jdm 440s, y-pipe mod, hacked downpipe to fit. i want a STREET car not a dyno queen(as you all know). because dyno bragging is like having a small cock Wink Razz

You'll need to tell me about it afterwards. If its good, I'll get a different one just because we need diversity between our cars! If its REALLY good, I'll take it lol. I agree though, I dont give a f*ck what it dynos so much as I want the power.

Haltech will give you the most support, as its the most common ECU for 1JZ owners.

Your upgradepath is the same as mine (apart from i've already got the hybrids Big Grin ), but i'm going for e-manage as i have an auto.. If you have a manual, i wouldnt hesitate going for a standalone.

PS as regards timing, the ECU doesnt go into 'protect' mode , but the learning aspect of it sees that there is some strange ignition readings going on, and slowly compensates back to the original settings... overriding the settings of the piggyback (apparently, its only hearsay).

Question for you, Andy:
Why are you going with the E6x kit as opposed to the E11? Are there any advantages? I know they have E11's with 1JZ base maps incorporated, so you won't even have to immediately tune it when you hook it up.
