Tried a search, but little came up.

I was wondering if the T78 would even boost a little bit under daily driving street conditions. I know it has great top end power but how often will you be seeing that everyday?

in a nut shell: is the T78 a pain in the ass to have for daily driving use?

you take the time to reply and all you can say is negitive stuff. you are polluting the board.

to answer the question the T-78 is a ALL top end power turbo. you would loose most of the drivability on a daily basis. the point of the 1jz having small ceramic turbos it to ensure low end torque and responsiveness for everyday use. in stock trim the 1jz will have full boost aquired by 2700-3200rpm. the boost comes on very fast and turbo lag is almost nonexistant. the T-78 would not get full boost until around 4-4.5K rpm, thus loosing the GREAT responsiveness of the smaller turbos. you can call theis setup(t78) dyno queen or highway killer, thats about it. Greddy(trust) also offers a TD-07 and TD-08 single kits. not to forfer that they also offer twin turbo maifolds to support a td04 and tdo5 setup. you are talking big monet to do either option. personally i will go the path of upgrading the twins with a tubular maifold and larger wheels(steel), but not too large to loose effencey. i would be very happy with 550whp or so.

I apologize for my rudeness. It was uncalled for. I had no reason to say any thing from my previous post, once again, I am very sorry.
I really didn't realize I was being a ass. Thank you agent89 and adi for enlightening me on my rudeness.

Buy to answer your question... A T-78 is a big turbo for street usage. Its useless if your in traffic (especially in LA!) The bigger size turbochargers are for drag racing and highway runs. The turbochargers on the 1jz are powerful enough to give you the power you want without sacrificing any lag.

I think a T04 would be your best bet if you decide on a single turbo upgrade, with that in mind, don't forget supporting mods!

thank you, and i accept the appology.
YES, as marine said the supporting mods are just as important(if not more) than the turbo itself.

with so much LAG. but it would have one hell of a top end(that would rarley get used for the most part)
go medium single that has a BB center section. it would spool REAL fast and still have killer top end.

Thanx for the response guys. In fact this 1jz isnt in a Mk3 but in a SC300. Got the motor off a soarer front clip actually. I didnt read any of the rude comments so it doesnt matter to me. You guys brought up many good points about having only top end power. I used to have a smaller turbo car and i didnt like the fact that the BOV was always going off while driving on the street. I always have been serious about getting a large turbo as well. thanx guys, this info helps a lot!

hehe not necessarily, just a car that will scare the crap out of someone on the track or the freeway when they least expect it. Smile

Mine does both, and I have a TO4 based single turbo 1JZ ! Also I agree with all the comments about the T78 thus far based on my experience with two friends with T78 1JZ supras ! When it comes down to it, its still your decision and I hope you are happy with it !
