can the 1jz-gte use a 2jz 6 speed mission? are the shafts different lengths? does the ECU have anything to do with it?

Yes it will bolt up, you will just use the 2JZ flywheel and clutch. The Tunnel might need some active modding though. eg big hammer to bish it out alittle for fit that getrag in. Also will have the problem with the shifter.

I HEARD that the shifter will sit a few inches back from where the R154 shifter. I do not know if this is true or not.. but I guess if you can afford a getrag tranny, you can afford to plug the R154 hole, remove the center console between the seats, cut a new hole and fabricate something nice to cover it all. Sounds like a project. Big Grin What I am wondering is, if you change to the getrag, will this bring your top speed up from the stock 157mph of the MkIII to what the MkiV's are capable of?

There will definitely be issues with the shifter. I bought a W58 from a Mk4, and the shifter was at least 3-4 inches further back than the shifter on a Mk3 W58. That should give you some idea where the shifter will be if you install a 6-speed.

Been done, Neil and C&N in florida. 6 speed on a 1jz, its not as bad as you think if you did the 1j by yourself, you can do this.
