Ok I have recently gotten into mkIII supras and am now getting into the 1jzgte engine swap.

Now here are my questions

1. Was the 1jzgte and the 2jzgte engines installed into the car factory? or was only the ijzgte engine in the MKIII supra.

2. swapping a 1jzgte needs nothing but extension of the wireing harness and a 89+ crossmember to install the engine and run it and drive it? Do you use the existing intercooler and piping and all that stuff from a US mkIII or do u need the J-spec car stuff?

3. 1jzgte parts are rare so what aftermarket ugrades can be bought and slapped on? and what custom upgrades/parts can be made for the 1jzgte engine.

4. Is it really worth swapping the bottem end of a 2jz and putting it onto a 1jz really worth it? and how much would this cost?

Edit: I have been searching for 1jzgte engines on google and ebay. What sites have u guys used to buy 1jzgte engines and what did they include, price, and how was the conditon/mileage

1jzgte was stock in japan only. 2j is stock here and in japan, too. the 1j is in a few cars (supra, chaser, soarer if i remember right).

you will need some additional parts to complete your swap. the harness should be extended at least 2.5 feet. the crossmember is necessary only to fit the engine into engine mounts without doing custom modification. in my case, i will be doing some cuttin' and weldin' (i have an '88 supra). read the FAQ in the 1jzgte section- many of your answers are there (mods, providers, websites, info, etc.).

making the 1.5jz is a matter of opinion. if you have time, money, and skills, go for it. read up in the 1jz section about it, though. it sounds like more work than you may think. to produce more power, the 2j bottom end would help a lot (3 liters > 2.5 liters), but again, it's a balance between time, money, and skills.

finally, do a TON of research before starting. i've been researching this for over 2 years now and i still haven't started because the possibility of buying a clip or motor with bad internals, turbos, etc. is there. also, money and time are big factors... Razz good luck with your adventure. it's fun and exhausting at the same time.

by the way, here's a list of providers i have found-

http://www.munleeauto.com/

watch out for the cheaper ones: they can screw you over. for example, flashoptions is very cheap, but i've heard from a couple forums to watch out for them because they take parts off the clips and don't tell you and their shipping takes FOREVER.

I can vouch for James at JARCO. They test drive their cars in Japan before having them cut.

After getting my clip home, I discovered they had accidentally punctured the I/C with the forklift. James made it up no problem. Car had little over 60k miles and the best thing, it was a no option car and was completely stock. Since I was putting it in an NA everything was used all the way back to the diff. Runs smooth as silk.
