How different are the OEM sensors between these two motors? I'm interested primarily in things like cam sensors and ignition. The AEM ECU has a PnP application for the 2JZ in the Supra and some of us are wondering if perhaps this ECU might easily work with the 1JZ as well. The ECU could certainly run the 1JZ but the less guesswork and fiddling to get the sensors setup the better.

Hrm, and could someone measure the width of the 1JZ with it's turbos mounted? Length would be nice with the measurements for motor mount location. Length from mounts to shifter with a Supra 5spd? smile Kind of wondering how well it might sit in a Datsun 240Z smile

TIA! cool

There are at least two 240Z's with 1JZ's in Australia, so it can be definitely be done... apparently it's not hard to do, and it certainly looks right at home in the 240Z engine bay.

they are pretty similar. The coil packs are the same, I believe the cam sensors are the same and the crank sensor should be as well. The ecus are completly different and don't share the same harness at all, so it wouldn't just plug into a 1j supra harness(only one I know about-the soarer uses a differnt harness/ecu) Shouldn't be that hard to get to work though. I almost tried it out. The 1j is already Map sensor-no afm, and already has a 7200 rev limit..

Oh, I know it can be swapped into a 240Z -> http://www.blkmgk.com/Development/TestWEB.nsf/PhotoGallery top story wink Took me awhile to hunt down that story and get it sent to me scanned from OZ. Dog ate the first CD before I could post it and I had to beg for another!

How easily the 1J can be run with an AEM is what I was most wondering. There's also someone in the AEM Forum who's considering a MKIII swap who wanted to know. The AEM can run most any sensor but the 2JZ is already figured out so if the 1J is close that REALLY helps. smile Cannot help but think that a 2J or 1J into a 240Z would be a blast and VERY fast. If only I had known about these motors before I'd swapped in a built 383 SBC (sigh).

Thnaks guys!
