i'm 98 bpu++ (untuned afr, fmic) running TTC.
when i romp on it from a start, car runs perfectly, hitting full boost in all gears. when i am driving, or downshifting, with the rpm above 4k-4200rpm, and punch it, the car will boost 6-7psi at most in the current gear. when you shift, it will continue fully boosting (15-18psi) throughout the remaining gears. 1) some people have told me this is normal in TTC. can anyone confirm? or deny? i find this hard to believe. 2) is it possible my mechanic set something up wrong w/ TTC? what VSV/actuator combination might result in the behavior above? would a bad pressure tank result in this behavior? 3) a toyota mechanic told me the transmission sends the ECU a signal when you downshift that prevents boosting too high. (however, this problem does not only happen during downshift situations.) i'm highly dubious about #3, leaning towards #2, and curious about #1. thanks, chuck |

Hmm, well from what I see your car is UNTUNED and if your running bpu+++ you should seriously think of getting it tuned very soon.
very well could be situation #3 if your TRYING to run more then 15 PSI without a BCC and your car is trying to pull more boost then it is allowed to. -R |

i do have BCC.
if you punch it from a stop, or below 4k rpm, the car will boost fine, all the way to 18psi, throughout each gear. 1) have you heard of this transmission/ECU boost limiting signal? (i don't mean the ECU limiting boost w/o a BCC.) 2) are you suggesting a tuned AFR would eliminate this problem? i agree it needs to be tuned, but i don't see how running rich will affect the car's inability to boost past 7psi when you punch it from 4k rpm or more. 3) do agree that the car, in TTC, should boost immediately to 18psi if it's punched at 4k+ rpm? thanks, chuck |
