What are safe EGT temps for a BPU supra?
I have my probe installed right on the
manifold right near #5. My EGT was reading
over 1000 degrees celcius last night.

Mine is mounted in my DP.....for normal driving it usually is around 4.5 and sometimes 5.0 on long drives.......under WOT it sometimes goes up to 6.5, I figure as long as I'm not over 7.0 I'm doing alright Smile

Well my EGTs are way higher, hopefully just
because mine is mounted right on #5 on the exhaust manifold. I want to know though what other people have as EGT with the probe mounted there. I can get my EGTs way above 10000 easily.

I think people usually say 900 degrees in the manifold is getting dangerous. How long did it read that hot? Does the car feel different now? I wouldn't keep boosting my car while seing those king of temps.

How much boost are you running and on what octane fuel? Lean A/Fs coupled with timing retard will give you high EGTs. If you are running high boost, your ECU is probably pulling lots of timing to keep from detonating. This will drive EGTs up like crazy.

I am running 94 octane with these EGTs. MY
check engine light is on also, hmm something
is wrong. I just installed a new shortblock
and everything seems to run fine. Just have
a check engine light that does not come on till
the car gets going. Then the TRAC light comes
on with it. This could be related or not. May
have to take the car to the dealer to see what
codes it is pulling.

If you have an OBD1 car (pre 97) you can check the codes yourself using the diagnostic cap. Go to www.mkiv.com for detailed instructions.

Supraseth, you hit the nail right on the head Big Grin

Checked my code per my factory manual, (didnt know I could do this myself without a scan tool). It was the #1 knock sensor code. Turns out my knock sensor wire came out of
the connecter. So after alittle rewiring on
the harness I was back in business!

EGTs are way down now, I reset the ECU to make
sure it was not pulling timing anymore.!

Thanks DUDE!
