I have read a lot of interesting info in these forums as well as the suprastore articles. Suprastore notes that, with BPU, you can achieve an estimated 460HP and that a stock car can safely handle this much power.

I have a 94 TT Automatic. I have read info that conflicts with the above as well. Can you guys please clarify if it's safe to run close to the 460HP range on a stock TT automatic, with only the following upgrades: downpipe, exhaust, greddy BCC, Boost Controller, Boost gauge.

Thanks

Also, do you have to get your car tuned with just the BPU? Or is that only if you add additional upgrades such as cam gears?

The BPU package is indeed OK on a totally stock car. The only thing is, don't expect your car to yield the ful 460RWHP advertised HP. Sure there are/were/can be Supra TTs that can get that, but don't it.

I'd say if you get to 420-430RWHP, be happy with that.

Now, as for prep work, always make sure you do so before adding the BPU stuff.

As listed, the BPU consists of the following:

downpipe, exhaust, greddy BCC, Boost Controller, Boost gauge.

You should do the necessary/recommended maintainence work on your car before performing BPU:

New spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, air filter/open element one.

Running old plugs when adding the BPU usually kills em a lot faster, especially with them being at stock gap.

And tuning, of course tuning your car yields the best performance/HP however slapping on BPU and running without tuning is fine.

You should probably reset your ECU so your car can re-learn some new a/f maps within its limit; but overall, no tune is necessary for BPU package.

Hope this helps. My information comes from reading on the same forums/sites as you and from my own experiences in my 3000GT VR4.

One last thing/suggestion, when you get your BPU package, especially if you plan on doing it yourself, do one thing at a time.

Example: I'd do the downpipe/exhaust first. That way you can make sure you have no exhaust leaks. Since your exhaust setup is now more free flowing, your car will automatically boost about 1psi more than stock.

Then, go on to installing your boost gauge. This way, you can get used to how it reads and what values you need to be paying attention to. Make note of what its boosting at, and where it will boost AFTER you install your greddy BCC and Boost Controller.

So many times have I seen others, myself included, install a whole bunch of crap at a time and have countless problems that make troubleshooting a "B"

Good luck with it.

Tony
