Hey all! This is kind of a noob question but why does the BPU kit on suprastore.com claim 460hp but most of the BPU supras i see usually dyno at about 380? Is this because you need ++ or is it an advertising claim to get you to buy or is there a lot much power loss through the drivetrain?

Store numbers = at the crank on race gas
Dyno numbers = at the wheels |

O-J,
380 rwhp does NOT translate to 460 crank. Calculate an approximate of 15% of drivetrain loss for a 6sp. and 20% for an auto. 430 on a 6 sp. is about 500 crank HP, not more than that. -Olivier ----- I guess I'll be surfing here until...I get tired of it! |

quote: Depends on who you ask. I knew a guy in VA Beach who built race engines and had a dyno used by every kind of car under the sun. He swore manual loss was 20% and auto trannies even higher (22-25%). Since he dyno'd engines before putting them in the car and then did the chassis dyno (and he had dyno'd several hundred cars), I didn't argue. 380whp with 15% loss is 447bhp. With 20% loss it's 470bhp. A safe estimate is to split the difference and call it 460bhp. 1997 Supra TT, 6spd Bone stock. 291.5rwhp/294.3rwtq |
