Hey everyone, i have a JDM engine in my previous NA. So far, i have a downpipe/exhaust. Im getting a BCC and soon an air intake. Do these take well on the JDM engine? Any problems with JDM and BPU?
any help is appreciated

The stock JDM turbo's do not take kindly to boost over 15-16psi. This info is pretty sound from our UK Supra brethren.

If you replace the JDM turbochargers with US spec twins, you should be okay. You are going to want the US spec injectors as well if you are going to safely get the most boost out of US CT-12b's on the JDM 2JZ though.

How hard is it to replace the twins, i plan on doing that, found some nice US twins for 600. Anything else needed?

I don't think you need anything extra. The port spacing on the JDM and US head should be the same.. if you get the complete twin assembly, manifold, etc [US passenger side of the engine].. you should be able to bolt that all up directly.
Keep in mind that if you use the JSpec turbines and manifolds, you are going to need a Japanese aftermarket downpipe; this is more expensive.
Bolt up the US spec manifolds, turbos, Y-pipe, etc.. onto the engine, get a Suprastore 3" downpipe and have fun. Big Grin

Hello DJDesi

Just to let you know the JDM J-Spec Turbos are efficient upto 1.2 bar (Approx 18psi) Here in the UK we all run our J-Specs at this. You will shorten the life of the Turbos but it is common for the Turbos to last at least 3 years. It depends on what state the turbos were in to start with and how hard you drive.

The advantage with the J-Spec Turbos are that they spool up quicker due to ceramic internals. Also on the J-spec, remove the cats, free flowing exhaust, fit a restrictor ring and cooler plugs and you will hit 18psi without the need of E.B.C

Cheers

I don't mean to highjack this thread, but I'm just stating to do my NA to TT swap with a JDM 2jz gte motor. I had a couple of questions for you Samurai. Were you using the JDM ECU when running the stock JDM motor? I know that in Japan they run higher octane fuels and a few different internals, but I was curious if I could run the JDM ECU. Thanks

Yes i am running the JDM ECU. it came with the motor when i bought it, as far as the fuel 93 is just fine to run with. The internal differences are nothing really just different injectors and turbos thats about it, besides thefact that the JDM motor does not have a mass air flow sensor. If you have any other Q's im happy to help.

Hey fellas

Latest update. I just got a nice set of US spec twins. Since my last post ive added a FMIC and a wideband O2. Also, I have us spec injectors and upgraded fuel pumps. Hopefully with these new toys, I should be over 400hp to the rear wheelsSmile

Samuri, great hearing about your swap!! Good luck to you! Did you replace your radiator? They say our NA ones are as big as the TT ones.

Hey I did a NA-TT swap using a jdm 6spd motor a while ago. What mods your using to push 480 to wheels?? I only push up to 12lbs, but even so my car feels very sluggish because I could not beat a 350z. Let me know

Hey guys, yes i did replace my radiator with a griffin aluminum race radiator. the mods im running are as listed
Apexi-N1 exhaust
Tannabe 3" downpipe(no cats)
Spec Stage 5 flywheel and clutch
Apexi-boost controller
Apexi-safc
custom 3" intercooler piping

Thast pritty much it I think off the top of my head but im usual running 19psi, I also run gear and RPM sensitive boost with my Apex-i controler(awsume feature). Also i have alot of tunning hours spent down at the local drag trip to obtain maximum performance.

jdm ceramic turbos will easily take 18-20 psi without any problems...just let them cool down for 5 mins before shutting off the motor....thats all..

Correct me if I am wrong but only US-UK twins will hold 20psi. I have heard the ceramic turbos will safely hold about 17psi
