At which point in the modification process does an STI beat the Supra. More to mod, the STI or the Supra. Which has a higher horsepower capabilites? Which is more reliable? Which is better on a low budget. Driving in the winter is a given, but which is more logical to purchase, based on fun to drive, speed, quality, feel, and economics.

You can get a TT 6-speed pretty easily for under $25000. A STI has a base price of $33000.
With the Toyota Supra, you are getting the bulletproof 2JZ-GTE engine and Lexus comfort and reliability. BPU for a Supra costs less than $1500, and that's doing it the expensive way. That gives you right around 400hp at the wheels. I don't know what the STI mods are, or what they cost, or even what each "stage" yields in horsepower, but I think that the Supra will yield more for less. Then again, a new STI will have a warranty, but you won't be able to mod it. You have positives and negatives in each of these cars, I guess. You really have to ask though, what do you want? IF you pay the base price for a STI, you may regret the $25k Supra with $8k worth of modifications for the same price.. I believe the 700hp kit for the MkIV costs less than $8k, and that includes fuel, an AEM EMS, ignition upgrade - the works. Only thing you need is an intercooler and clutch, which can cost a bit. I'm not going to bag on the STI. It's a pretty nice car [better be if it's a 4-cyl that costs more than $30k] with quite a bit of potential. I just wish that they had a 2-door version in the US. I don't know enough about the STI to make a really valid argument, except that if you buy it brand new, you are going to get that warranty. You can't mod it without really voiding that warranty [if it breaks, they are going to pull codes and find out anyways], which would be missing out on alot of cash in repairs, if needed. So, if you are wanting to mod the car, you might as well go with a car that you don't care about the warranty and can extract more power from, cheaper. That's my logic. |

I was looking at the sti and supra as well. But after doing some research, it was apparent the SUpra was the far better car. My friend mapped his Sti's ecu and swapped a couple of other things, and it ended up costing him an arm and a leg for only an extra 100 rwhp. The great thing about the the Sti is that its a pocket rocket straight from the factory. But even though its a four banger, it SUCKS gas like nobodies business. Plus, aftermarket parts are not as widely available as the Supras. The good thing though its that its LSDs are awesome, and the internal computer is second only to the Skyline. But the truth of the matter is, where can you get a car that will gve you 800 rwhp on stock internals? Plus, how many supras vs. how many Sti's do you see on the rode?

Try EBay, but don't get tricked. Seems like that is the place to find 'em easiest. You can also find them on the different Supra forums. http://i-supra.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/561608488/m/7901047611 They are out there - you just need to be like a snake, quietly waiting for the mouse to pass by. Be patient and ready to buy when you see it. |

Are you kidding me ? If you break it down the STI is a work of art and and what they did with it is way more than they put into a supra. I mean lets break this down
STI = 4 CYL TT = 6 CYL and yet the STI cant still manage to pump out 300hp just 20 shy of the TT. I meen dont get me wrong there is no other car in the world I would have than a TT but its not the undiputed reigning champion. Honestly if you ask me you shouldnt be compareing the supra to the STI. this is true...i have driven an 05 sti and my 93.5 mkivtt both awsome cars....yes the sti comes with a warranty and really as long as u dont get in to the engine internals, u wont void the warranty, trust me i hav asked the dealers and it took me long enough to decide..........BTW whats wrong with a red dawg?
also keep in mind the useability of the car...the sti is a 4 door and has a trunk, the dawg is a 2 door with a useless back seat and a trunk that is 6 inches deep and only good for the targa. do you have kids? bc the supra is not gonna be you best bet unless you have another vehicle too. not to mention you talking AWD and RWD then again both cars have been used for rally cars, and i have had to drive my dawg in the northeast ohio snow before too, its not bad but i would perfer not to mainly bc of the salt -brandon HKS:intake, downpipe,Super dragger,FCD GREDDY:t.t.,Grex shift knob OZ racing 18's w pirelli p7000 tires http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/798702/1 LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO DRIVE STOCK!!! |

way more than the supra?!...think again.
supra
subaru. the only reason i put economics with the Sti is because you get a warranty, 4 doors, trunk, and better gas mileage and because supras are expensive to repair however you can buy a supra cheaper than a brand new sti. |

I dident meen like made it faster i meen they spent more time on it but still like bar none the supra is the ultimate car no other car in the world has the potential like this car. I meen its just crazy when you see the car its the most overly engeinered car in the world. I meen you have a bullet proof 6spd transmission the turbos go out before the motor. Its the king of all cars

Supra is a better car all the way around.Cheaper to modify, definately better looking, more shit available for, it's cheaper to buy, better engine, list goes on and on. Only thing i like out of the sti is that its awd thats it.

Another thing to consider is what sought of driving are you doining,I mean if you are just goin to do the shopping get the Subie, but if WOT is what your after well its no contest any guise weather it be stock bpu or apu its no contest.....In our part of the world which is little old New Zealand we are over run with Subaru's,it would probably be 100 subies to every Supra but for open road performance a BPU subie would probably stay with a bpu Supra upto about maybe 80 mph but after that it would be curtains for the Subie as they just don't have the legs and just run out of puff.In saying that though that they would out handle a Supra in the twisty bits though.......

how you gonna compare the 2 engines and how they came along? the Supra TT has been around over 10 yrs with upgrade to the motor. and the new STI's have about 10 Yrs of advance engineering. but for a motor thats considered "Old" it will still rock with $60K plus cars like the new Z06 and vipers. |
