whats up..this question has been bothering me for a long time now..it really doesnt have that much to do with supras but ..i have been dojng a favor for my friend that owns an evo 8 and he wants an intake for it....so i said i will look for one..and i noticed this alot that alot of companies like aem and injen make cold air intakes for the wrx and evolution 8..what i dont understand is that it doesnt maytter if its cold air becasue it becomes hot when it goes through the turbo and it is colled down ahgain after the intercooler...so what is the point of a cold air intake on a turbo charged car..i also nitiuced that they dont make a CAI for supra tt's...so someone please explain the logic of a CAI on a car that comes turbo from the factory...if there is no difference..it will be the hks suction kit probably...it seems pointless to use a CAI on the evo

cold air does help..... the reason we have none is due to the design of our engine turbo and side mount intercooler... and when we take off our headlight right where the intake is, you will see a noticeable difference in your et's 3-5mph
PS- i would not go with the HKS, i would go with either BLITZ or Apex |

Well there are some cold air intake made for the MKIV actually. The one that I am going to be getting is called the Max Air box, it runs for 259.00 from Horsepowerfreaks.com. This CAI is not like the conventional CAI's that has a long pipe going down towards the ground, this has a box that acts as a heat shield for the filter, this intake is suppose to provide 8-10 hp OVER the conventional suction kits like the hks.

so you guys are saying that he shouldnt go witht he hks suction kit....basically he is better off going with a regular aem cai..he will get more hp out of it this way huh?
well i still cant understand why that makes a difference becasue the air becomes very hot anyway after it get compressed with the turbo... icedsupra |

Don't expect too much HP from an intake. Although some people call their intakes "cold air" or "max air" they are usually trying to accomplish the same thing. They want more air flow while trying to kee the hot air from the engine out of the intake. Get something that isolates the intake from the rest of the engine and flows good. the HKS filter doesn't flow well, filters like crap and doesn't isolate the intake from the engine's hot air.
Also, lets say the turbo heats up the air by 50 degress and the IC cools the air by 50 degrees. If you start off with air that is 0 degrees you will end up with air that is 0 degrees. If you start with air that is 25 degrees, you will end up with air that is 25 degrees. Get it? |
