If anyone has an answer or suggestion, I would appreciate it. I just installed my BCC last week and after a weekend, the check engine/trac/and O/D off lights came on. Reset ECU numerous times, checked ECU wiring, soldered everything and still would come on after 1-2 minutes on the highway. Did a check and code 71 came up (EGR). Any relation to my BCC install in any way at all?
Thank you for any information. |

Did you ever find an solution to your code 71 problem? My car threw the same dash lights and a code 71 as well. I already had my BCC installed however. Any info you have learned on this problem would be awesome. Thanks man!

I took the car to the dealer and they registered an EGR malfunction. They wanted to replace the EGR system valves for a cool $800. I did some research and found the block-off plates from Powerhouse Racing that took the EGR system off.
So far, no check engine lights have come on but before they only came on after a highway drive (short). I will take it out later this week and let you know. |

Fricken dealerships. H aha haha ha. Well, it doesnt seem like the error 71 does not put the car into limp mode. It says on MKIV.com that you can put a resistor in the EGR valve connector/plug and trick the sensor/light and keep it from going off. That is what you have to do when you do the EGR block off plate. I wonder why you couldnt just do the resistor trick and leave the stock valve in place. I will try it out this weekend. Please let me knoe how the car goes on the road. THanks bro!!

Good idea for just putting the resistor in place but that leaves one problem - the heat. Based on what I read, on Supras, the EGR system dumps the heat back into the intake manifold and possibly burning the #5 and #6 valves plus the fact that turbo engines don't need any additional heat. When I was installing my block off plates, the bottom "tube" of the EGR was a #@!*%# to get off so I considered leaving it on. When I called Powerhouse, they told me that if I did, the heat would just be going into the engine bay instead - also a bad thing. I did eventually get the tube off (from the top - with an extension and a 90 degree socket adapter) and blocked off both sides. The resistor is just a basic Radio Shack resistor - you can find which one I believe under tech articles on MKIV.com.
I will keep you posted on whether or not I get a light on the highway. 94 TT Supra 90 Turbo Miata |

I too got the same 3 lights last weekend after some minor unrelated work to my supra. I found that one of the EGR vaccum hoses which connected down toward the bottom of the intake manifold had some how popped off. Re-connected and put a new clamp on it and that seems to have fixed the problem.
Check the easy stuff first. |

My EGR block off plates arrived today from MohdParts (half the price of the competition). Tomorrow, the EGR system goes bye bye. I will be sure and update with my results.

Great - let me know how it goes. I want to check with you on the trac hoses - 2 should be capped off and I am not sure I did that part correctly. I will send you a digital pic of my setup and you can send me yours and we will compare to see which makes sense. I have driven mine more and still no light. Perfect thus far (knocking on wood as I type).

Well, I purchased the EGR block off plates. I went to install them. Once I started, I noticed, that I couldnt see a way to get to the lower EGR plate. I have large hands and there was no way I was getting down there.
So, I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of allen socket headed stainless bolts to replace the studs on the top plate (8mm x 30mm I think). I removed the studs and pulled the upper EGR valve/sensor assembly away from the intake manifold. I then slid the top plate and black metal gasket between the manifold and the assembly. Then I tightened it down. I removed the EGR vacuum modulator and it's hoses. I removed all rubber hoses that are associated with the system. I then capped off all open ports. I had to zip tie the one coming off the EGR pipe that runs from the exhaust, other wise when I would boost, it would pop off. Lastly, I went to Radio Shack and purchased the 10k ohm 1/2 watt resistor pack, and installed one on the EGR temp sensor plug. Viola. Started it up, drove it a lot last night and no problems. Runs strong. No leaks, no hiccups. I can highly recommend it. ___________ -Goldfinger 93 MSB Supra TwinTurbo BPU+ 76 Porsche 911 RS <-for sale |
