I havnt started my car in over a month, but yesterday, when i did so, the idle was 2,300!!! the only thing i think i did was completely remove the speed control unit, do i need to put it back in, or is there a greater evil?

does it stay 2300 rpm even after the engine is warm? Is your idle steddy or does it bounce up and down?

I know the car probably hasn't moved for a while but check the timing spec. before doing anything... It should be at 8 degrees before top dead center. You might want to check for vacuum leaks....

how do i check the timing specs? and vacume leaks...like the bare vacume i have that WAS attached to the speed control actuator?

once you have removed your cruise control you'll need ot make sure to cap off the T-vacuum emission or run a solid vacuum hose. To check the timing spec you'll need a timing gun to do so. The car has stay at idle and then you shoot the light directly at the crankshaft and you'll see the timing degrees. I believe it should be at 8 degrees before top dead center... If it is below then you'll need some adjustments... hope this helps out...

i may seem stupid, but where and how much do i get the timing gun...grr, ok, i might just pout the SCA back in, just do im not over complicated.

o, and if it is less thn 8 degrees @ TDC than what adjustments would i have to make?!...j/w

also might try just tuniing down ur idle... on the top of the motor there is this weird looking silver tubee wiht a black cap over it ...pop the black cap out and stick a screw drivier in there and tune down... thats how i fixed my idle problom a yr or two ago..

Sounds like the throttle cable is hung up somewhere. It happened to mine when I swapped my engine.

FYI: 5MGE's and engines over 1983 required no idle speed adjustment due to a ISC Valve [Idle Speed Control] on the front of your EFI. But damn... Hey, clean your PCV and your EFI throttle body from gunk and you should maintain a better throttle seal when it opens and closes so it wont happen again. That shit happened to me. Damn Idle speed...
