First off id like to say halo to everyone, and i just have a simple (extremely complicated) question. a friend of mine is selling me his mk2 supra for 200$USD, and im wondering if general repairs and whatnot are expensive or not, and if they are reletively easy to accomplish, or am i getting in over my head? ive worked on numerous hondas, but never even drove a toyota before. Just wondering if there is anything i should watch out for, or any often repairs that would be needed?

wasup, the 5MGE is a very reliable engine. You can beat it and abuse the engine to the death and it'll still stand by you. I used to own a 85 MKII but my friend wanted so bad I sold it to him. The engine is not crambed so it gives you a lot of space to work with. Engine is very basic just looking at it. cylinder 6 burns real hot so watch out for that. The 5MGE has real big valves so its real good to turbo charge it. The only thing about those cars are: Hard to find performance parts and hard to get a good suspension set up. Its also hard to produce a lot of HP out of a NA 5MGE. Not unless you slap on a turbo to the 5MGE or a 7MGTE swap, Lexus V8 swap, 6MGE swap then slap a turbo on the 6MGE. Other then that, its on of my best car. When I had my MKII, under the hood was a 6MGTE boosting 16psi. Ground control front adjustable and the rear Eibach springs.. more... hope this helps out...

True that shit.
MKII's have like no performance parts, but it doesn't hurt to make your own if your up to it. If you wanna rebuild it the parts are dumb ass cheap at your local shops because its 20 plus years old. Have fun with it! If you buy a MKII I suggest getting a 84'-86.5' because everything [timing, EFI, ETC.] are run by computers. No timing gun and all that unless your motors crapped then you have a handful. MKII's have a lot of weight on them and understeer if your into drifting, but you can do whatever you want with them! AE86's are cool for drifting, but when you have a 5MGE under your hood... Psssh look who'll pull out more smoke... yummy.. How'd we start talkin about drifting again? Just buy the car. You cant go wrong. |
