Okay fellas, first topic in this forum. Glad I can finally say I own a Supra (I wish it was a MKIV, but I am content with my IS300
Anyway, I just picked up a White 85 MKII Supra. Now a few ?'s in reguards to the engine options: 1. I believe the stock engine is the 5MGE correct me if I am wrong, should I just add a turbo kit to this to get more power? 2. What consists of swapping in a 7M-GTE of an 87 Supra? My uncle has 2 spare engines and I can probably get one for almost nothing from him. How much $$$ am I looking for to do this swap. 3. What about a 2JZ-GTE? Same questions as #2 but I would have to buy one of these engines? (But then again, it would be very tempting to put this engine in my IS300 instead.. On all of these profiles I was thinking on slaping a V160 six speed tranny on it once I get hp numbers 300 and above. I know there are other 5sp trannys that aren't as strong as the V160, but I know that tranny will hold just about anything I put on the engine. I am not to concerned with drivability or the time it takes since this is a toy and I am using it to learn how to do all of this myself. I always have my IS to drive around everyday. I will be drifing in my new old Supra! Please let me know any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks alot! Keep on rockin Supra! 85 MKII Toyota Supra 88 MKIII Toyota Supra 01 Lexus IS300 |

welcome to the team. Pretty good choice on a '85 MKII just like mines. The 5mge only delivers 161 HP and 164 lbs. of torque at 4,000 RPM. AS far as adding a turbo kit to the 5MGE, you can either get the whole set up from rapidchimp and it'll cost you about $4,000.00. Or you can get collect all the stuff you need from a 7MGTE and it'll cost you lest. From there it'll boost your HP up to about 230 hp plus. NOw if you want to put in a 7mgte you'll need a whole donor for you MKII. Becaue you'll need more than just the engine. you'll need the drive shaft to get LSD, tranny, and many more. And of course you know wiring must be done correctly. If you want to put the 2JZgte you'll still need the MKIII's drive shaft and all or you'll need a doner. If you do a 7mgte swap the tranny can hold up to 400 hp. I'm still not too sure about the 5mge's tranny. hope this helps out a little.

Thanks for the warm welcome Inertia. A donor huh...I was under the impression that all that was really needed was the 7M engine and the wiring harness, and ECU. What else would I need? As far as putting it all together, my uncle has an 84 (MKII), and an 87(MKIII) in perfect shape and we can use those cars as guides if need be. He also has the factory repair manuals for both cars, so I got that covered. I was talking to him last night and he told me that I would have to get the 87 tranny along with the driveshaft to make this work. Does the 85 come with LSD stock?
I am really leaning toward the 7M-GTE sway since it would probably be the easiest, less money, and since I have alot of resources already to help me along the way. While I would love to get a 2JZ in there, like I said, I have the IS300 and for now that's 2JZ enough for me. lol I have done a bit of searching on the internet and found that the entire engine should cost no more than exhaust headers and a race pipe for my IS....lol Imagine my suprise... Anyway, keep the tips coming guys! I appreciate all the info I can get my hands on. O yeah I peeped that www.supras.com site where the guy had the whole write up on it...pretty good info there, I just want more...lol 85 MKII Toyota Supra 88 MKIII Toyota Supra 01 Lexus IS300 |

aye, dont forget to reNEW/upgrade your suspension (sway bars, shox, struts, bushings, etc.) and breaks (rotors, calipers, etc.) - it is apparent that before you go into swapping a heavier & more hp-filled motor, that you prep your car for the speed, handling & turbulence! or else you'll get MAD understeer & a likely lag in acceleration/decceleration.
