My 84 supra is being a pain. It has a problem with overheating. I replaced the thermostat and put new fluid in the radiator. Two days later the thermostat went and smoke poured out of the radiator hose. I replaced the thermostat again, and the same thing happened. I now have the thermostat out and I'm not having the problem, but I have no heat and it's getting cold. Auto Zone said this was the right thermostat. Does anyone know anything? confused

Please dont ever buy parts for a Toyota at Autozone. They are sub par quality, even to a Dodge. The water pump may be freewheeling if you dont have any heat.

With time and lots of mileage radiators can get clogged or lose effcientcy from all the dirt, dead bugs and other debris trapped in it's fins.
Take the radiator all the way out and clean it. Carefully use a pressure washer and blow the from the fan side to the front and repeat over and over. This won't get all crud out so a sowing neddle comes in handy in those troublesome spots.
I did this very thing to my radiator over three days last summer before installing the 7mgte.

That I think would help, but without a thermostat in, it doesn't over heat. When I have one in, the thermostat locks up and the engine starts to smoke. I did alot of things to try and stop the porblem and then put in a new thermostat...all the same ending...I am really thinking it's because the thermostat isn't good enough for my car. I think I'm going to go through a toyota dealer and get one made for a supra so that way I know it won't be the thermostat thats wrong. Anyone know where to get rims for an 84' supra?! =\
