I've been thiking about taking the stock MK2 hatch apart and putting in a piece of plexiglass or plastic material so I can shave the weight. B/c when i was swapping my 84 for an 85 hatch/spoiler set up I could NOT believe how HEAVY they are in stock form. somewhere I'd guess around 100-120Lbs. Not much metal there either, so it has to be mainly glass weight. So I put in a plexiglass piece it would look stock, and be light as shit. for 50 lbs of weight reduction I'll do it. Any input, ideas guys?

sounds like a very good idea. hey toy8, you said you found a plexi glass for $300?? is that in US$$ or NZ$$, just wondering. if I could find a plexi glass with the right size and a affordable price, I wont mind doing it either.
