My Supra is running right now at about 35 degrees BTC and I havent been able to get the timing anywhere close to the 10 Degree mark, If I move the Distributor One tooth, It jumps over to the other side of the Timing Mark and it wont come close to the O degree. My Cams are set on the "E" Marks. I know there is a "T" Mark on the cams also. Can anyone tell me if One side has to be set on the "T" and one on the "E" or do I have them set right. Im getting a slight miss also because of this Problem

Thank you all and god Bless

First off, I have to ask what year your car is.

To make sure your cams are properly aligned, make sure you are TDC (top dead center) on your number 1 cylinder. Check your camshaft timing sprockets. If you are running an 87 or later the timing marks on the camshaft spockets should be pointing straight up (there should be marks on the back timing cover for you, they should be pointing at those) if it is an 82-86 model, then they will be slightly offset, one to one side, and one to the other at about 10 degrees. there are slo marks on the timing cover for that.

Let me know if that helps.

I have an 84 model Supra. I set the crank and I did set the Cam gears on the marks that are on the back of the timing cover. I also made sure that the Rotor Button was Pointing at the number one Plug wire and I made sure that the Number 1 Piston was all the way up. After doing all this, When I started the vehicle up, It fired right up without any hesitation at all but again, When I put the timing light to it to make sure that it was set, Its at the same spot as before.

Any other suggestions

Check your tps sensor, tap on it with a screw drive handle. It probably sticking, and need replacement. You can check with volt meter.

Ok, Here is a New one for you, Im going to have to leave with the timing Problem, I think I know what it is now. But Now that I have the timing down, Im getting a miss here and there when at Idle. Im sure that the Engine is timed right but still. When it does miss, you can hear it and the engine bumps also. Not for sure what too look for.

Im running 8.5mm wires with Rabid Chimp Air induction pipe and filter. Bosch Platnum +4 Plugs also. Do you think it could be my Coil since it is a Factory coil?

check your plugs, you might be able to find which cylinder isnt firing. once you figure that out, try differant plugs, check your distributor cap, and wires, could be numerous things, but those are the most obvious.

I found that boch isn't a real good product for toyota's for spark plugs. I'm having a problem too...how do you get the damned intake manifold off. It's driving me nuts, I got every bolt off I see and it won't budge an inch even. I'm doing an engine swap since I blew mine and I gotta get that off to get the wiring harness off.

bosch is running great in my car, but they did in my other car to, and after 10k miles, they deteriorated enough to cause a miss, so if that starts happening again, going to have to find a differant spark plug. There should be 8 bolts and 2 nuts. you might be missing a couple Smile

Hey, SupraGuy, I know its a little late on your timing problem, but did you make sure you jumped one of your terminals before you tried to time the engine?
