Well I have purchased a 7mgte motor so finally I am starting to build my 5mge to a 5mgte but I have a question, can I vent the bov that it came with? and by vent I mean letting the hair go to the atmosphere, also getting the wwsshhhh!! sound, or I am required to buy a aftermarket one? also how much boost can a stock mkIII bov hold before they start to leak?

It would prolly be a good idea to recirculate the bov, it won't take that much of your "wsshhhh" sound away. The stock MKIII Bov isn't that reliable, you should look into the Saab/Porsche upgarde.

on a 7M, the stock bypass valve is designed to fluctuate between open and closed at idle. if you vent it atmospherically, you WILL create a large vacuum leak, and your car will run poorly.

besides that, anyone with an AFM still on the car should recirculate it. you're throwing off the metering signal every time the bypass/bov vents atmospherically.

i have an aftermarket unit, and i still recirculate it, and i'm running a speed density setup that doesn't give a damn if it's vented or not. (besides, recirculating helps keep the turbo in spool, which, in turn, gets you back into boost faster after you shift.)

anyway, that's my .02 psi.

well I would be running it on my 5m and shaeff you do make a good point, but lets say I still might want to vent is in order to get that wwshhh!! sound, what should I do?? or do I not have to vent it in order to get that sound?

I answered your question above Turbo. Recirculate and you still get the BOV sound, not quite as loud as atmospherically, but you will hear it! IF your that concerned with the noise vs. performance, buy a GodZilla BOV or something else crazy loud. But for the sake of your engine, recirc man, recirc.....

ok I will recirculate it I was not aware that by doing that it would still get that sound, I used to have a talon and I recirculated that one but I never got any sound at all, but probably cause it was a dsm. Performance is way more important. Thanks

many people, such as myself, when i'm complete with my new setup will be running two bypass valves.

i *might* vent my HKS SSQV externally, but i'll be running a bosch 110 recirculated. i haven't decided yet.

(then again, keep in mind that i don't use a stock AFM.)

yes i am. Smile i'm running the MAFTpro in speed/density, with boost control. Wink

it kicks ass.

edit: if you decide to go the MAFTpro route, talk to drjonez over on supramania.com. he is THE man to talk to / get tech support from in regards to the M-pro.

Thanks bud. I got a few goodies on the agenda first but I will look into it. I would like to ask though, I'm interested in buying the hard pipe replacement for the accordian hose. Does that effect a MAFTPro system in any way?
