I was testing out my cooling system(i have no fan, hahaha). well, i was in 3rd, and i hit the clutch to go to to 4 , and well, i felt a loss of tension mid-shift. so i put back in 3rd, and it didnt go! it some how is either in neutral, or the clutch is out. the dude who sold me the car said the clutch was gunne give out, but if it is my clutch, can i fix it myself?>
the car starts, but there is a clicking from the tranny area and i can shift gears on the stick, but i wont move. it is like a permanant nuetral. PLEASE HELP ME. im so sorry for always asking stupid/too many questions, but i want this car to be with me. its mah first car and i wanna keep it. HELP A GUY OUT PLEASE!

If i did replace the clutch i was thinking of the 7mgte's...7mgte clutches are cheaper...and should be beefier. will they work on the my 5mge manual tranny?

yes its your clutch... the 7m would not work on the 5m tranny. Clutch plays a huge roll in performance when you need the launch and power band. I highly recomend you to get clutch masters because it grips soo freaken good but on the other hand it is also pricey $$$$... But if you just want to get stock clutch for now, just get the 5m clutch and you'll do just fine. NOw depending on clutch you get can effect you on the long run. Whatever you do, do not get cluthes that are made by "cumberland" because they make clutches that are crappy! but yea, the problem you are facing would be your clutch. NOw, if you want to repair it yourself you can if you have the proper tools. If you don't have the proper tools to do the job you'll be stuck. It took me about 5 hours to get mines done and it was a pain. Oh, yea... if you do attack it yourself make sure you resurface your flywheel so that it'll be a even surface when you put it back in... you might want to inspect it first to see if its still good to reuse. If you are not sure about fixing it yourself you might considering taking in to a shop that you trust. They would normally charge about $350 and up. I hope this helps out a little and maybe not too much stress on you...

Thanks man! i was wonderng if you knew of a good scorce for a clutch? Autozone is doing the whole "imma be expense, cause we suck" thing, and i am limited in cash, right now im trying to get a new hatch, so thats first. (i know, im stupid by putting cosmetics first) then the clutch. Yew know by now Inertia that i am not very skilled, but if you give me a list of tools, i will go get them and i want to do it by myself, i will put in alot of time rather than money cause im just a broke teener. leter, and thanks again for everyhting you guys do.

well, I work at autozone and when I first needed a set of clutch thats where I got it from. It was the least expensive set I could find comparing with their competitors. If you're going to do it yourself, you'll need to get a book on it just incase you get stuck (if you want and if you do get one it'll help out a lot) but as far as tools go... YOu'll need a good socket and ratchet set enough to provide the help. You're gonna need some open wrench because there are going to be some tight spot to get to. Thats basically about it. YOu'll need about 2.6 qts. of 75-90w gear fluid. It would be better to run full syntetic gear fluid. And about the BHG on the 5mgte if turbo charged, there won't be a problem just as far as you torque it right and boost safe. You want to get some ARP head studs *best* or you can get ARP head bolts which are cheaper. as far as your interior goes, well... it doesn't matter where you start. Getting a car to run fast or to make it look good it'll always take time. Start where ever is easier for you. And cylinder 6 is at the back of the engine where the heater bypass hose runs on top of it. There the 6th cylinder burns freaken hot and so does the 7m... So just keep a close eye on it... just make sure to check the plug. well, hope this helps out RedlinedN5thgear... if you have anymore question fell free to ask more... o, u can just call me Jim. ^_^
