So I talked my buddy into buying an 84 perfect condition 5sp only 89000 miles on it. He got it for 2000 and everything looks like its a brand new car. Anyway the problem is it is really hard to put into 1st gear when he stops iam talking having to jam it in there. Not the normal sometimes have some trouble going in all the time it gives you a hard time. then we tried to put it in reverse and the sycros grinded and we couldnt get it in. We had to shut the car off and turn it on already in reverse to use the gear. Any one have any ideas ? Could that be caused by a lose mount i havent spent too much time with the car yet so iam going over to his house sometime this week to check it out. any help would be great. Also does the 5spd from a 87 5sp bolt in? just wondering thanks for any help

Hey, could be something as simple as air in the hydraulic system so try bleeding it first, or while you're at it just flush the system. Air could cause the clutch to drag, or not fully disengage, making it hard to shift. Or, might need to adjust freeplay. I don't have a lot of experience with supras in particular, (just starting to play with mine a bit) but I'm taking automotive service tech in school and we just learned about clutches this week! So there's my two cents. Hope it helps.

thanks for the reply i drove his car yesterday and i found out 2 things one it went in to gear driveing very nice and two it stoped idling at 1000 and is now at 600 and will go into reverse so i think thats the reverse problem Clutch seems to operate fine but i take a look at its adjustment. I thing it might be a lose or missing mount or bolt on trans i need a lift though and i dont start my classes again untill summer iam going to get ahold of my shop teacher to see if he will let me bring it in earlyer though Thats awesome that your in auto tech classes iam takeing as well Witch ones have you completed so far i have engine rebuilding and genarel auto thanks agian
