i have an 85. It started a long time ago, The headlight relay quit. I jumpered it with two wires running into the car with a toggle switch...Yeah.. i know..:) Last month i bought an 86 Mk2, and i started swapping out parts to rememdy the light issue. I changed the headlight relay..nothing..ok...swapped the whole relay box..no good...thought maybe it had something to do with the autolight S/O switch when you open the door.....changed the ECU...nothing...changed the headlight switch on the steering column....nothing....still using the jumper...i traced the eletrical diagram..and only the left to change is the headlight retainer relay...where and what the heck is that? My headlights flip up and down fine, i just have to manually switch the lights on, whether the lights are up or down.
any thoughts....sorry so long...but the problem is a long one. thanks Damien 89t 86 Mk2 parts car 85 "SilverBullet" |

Have you been able to verify that there is power going into the light stalk on the steering column and then when you switch on the lights that power is going out? Jake www.gaslightautomotive.com |

There are two relay for the motorized headlight for the MK2 on is under the hood near the AFM and the other one is under the driver side dash and it is used as a relay for the stalk swith and the one under the hood is just mainly for the motor...

Check your fuse.
Before you ask, i'll explain. I was havent problems with my headlights, they would light up just fine, but the motors would flip the lights up, then down right away. I would ahve to manually flip them up which really sucked, and when I turned the lights off, they would flip down just fine. Well I came across a fuse in my underhood box that had barely blown. My guess is that the fuse was arcing when power was initially applied, but it couldn't sustain a good circuit, so the motors would go down (like I said, its just a guess, please feel free to correct me). I just replaced the fuse and everything worked fine. 1985 Supra 5MGE (Stock) |
