Will 7m-gte internals (pistons, rods, crank) fit into a stock 5m-ge block. Also what are all the mods that are needed for the hybrid conversion? I just got my 83 and it had a snapped rod in it. If I can fit 7m internals in it I would like to with out having to go looking for a motor.

Yeah, it'll work. It's called a 6m-ge
Not really worth it IMO, just buy a 6m and be done with it. If you use 7m pistons you will have 4 valve indents instead of 2, so you better make damn sure your timing belt doesn't go, otherwise you'll be putting the valves into the pistons. Dave in Oz |

The 7M crank won't fit in a 5M block, at least not without a fair amount of machining - the 7M bearings are larger.
As Dave said, the 6M is pretty much a 5M with a 7M crank, so you're better off getting one of these (they're cheap) and swapping it in. It's an easy job. Norbie! http://www.norbie.net |
