Does anyone know what the final drive ratio is on a MKIII NA auto. I know the 5spd had a 4.3 ratio. Is it the same or different?

Back, I've got a turbo and I'm not afraid to use it.

only difference is between the turbo and na. the turbo has 3.9 or something like that.

87 NA->Swap, Auto->5spd, HKS 1.2mm MHG, Lexus AFM, 550cc RX-7 II injectors, Apex'i Intake, Apex'i S-AFC II, Walbro 255 lhp Fuel Pump, Aeromotive AFPR, HKS EVC Boost Controller....some more stuff but I can't remember.

the rear on a turbo with a r154 is 3.7. But I want to know about the NA automatic tranny's rear. I'm going to assume that it's 4.3 like the manual from your post.

correct. As I said, the only difference with gearing is in the engines, not the transmission. A manual will have the same gearing as the auto if they have the same engine.

86.5-92 7MGE is 4.30:1
87-88 7MGTE is 3.91:1
89-92 7MGTE is 3.73:1

The 4.30 may or man not be limited slip. Most that I have seen were.

Thanks for the help guys. The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of buying a beat up NA then getting a half cut with a 1JZ. I don't care to have a car that can go 170+ so I'd just leave the 4.3 in it if it has LSD.

That is real good reasoning on your half. Too many asstards think they can go 170 and not end up in jail.

130 is pushing it with most patrols and charging you with reckless or careless and imprudent, etc...

Having a car that "only" goes 135 but gets there real quick will be fun. You will just get there all the quicker. 5th gear will be quite useful.

Actually, with a 1JZ, R154, 4.3 rear, and standard 225/50R16 wheels the car should still be capable of 160mph. This is as opposed to 185mph with a 3.7 or 175mph with a 3.9. But it'll still be ever so slightly quicker off the line with a 4.3 and that's what I'm after. And I'm willing to give up a top speed that I'm never going to reach anyway. 160 is still way faster than I'm ever gonna go, 100 tops and even that only briefly.

I have 4.30 in my 86.5 1jz with a r154 and it launches hard and fast. I've only driven a little up the street(no tags) so I havent felt 4th or 5th, or even that much of 3rd. So I dont actually know how fast it goes but probably fast enough. Big Grin

Did you convert to a 1JZ yourself or get a shop to do. I really want to do something like that, but I'm a little scared of taking an engine out of a car. I've done lots of garage work before, taken everything out of a car except the engine and transmission.

Well, my dad helped pull the old one and the new one and do the switch. I used a friends garage and some of his tools and hoist. After the motor was in I did 95% of the work by myself. I had arnout do my harness also. When I started the swap I had NEVER done anything like it. And I knew nothing about supras,, but now I know a little more but there still more to learn. I started my swap 6-24-02 so it has taken me a while but I was also jobless. Its runs now and is drivable but I have some little things I want to do before insuring it. Big Grin
