This happens to me a lot. Clutch fully in and i drop it into reverse and *GNRRR*, i grind reverse. I can get it on second try but why is my transmission grinding when i HAVE THE FRICKIN CLUTCH TO THE FLOOR!!! Happened to me once going into third as well. It's driving me nuts.

no shit? this happens to me too from 1st to 2nd but nothing else...it's just a bitch to get into Reverse, doesn't really grind ever. Might be syncros going out.

just reverse...don't worry until it gets very hard to get it in...it'll likely last longer than you'll have the car, and it really is only annoying at this point. For the forward gears, you might try switching to redline products. MTL and MT-90 are known for their ability to quiet or eliminate that crunching. It really just buys you some time though until you have to replace the syncros. Mine has been ok for 3 years now, but is to the point that redline can't help it anymore, and a rebuild is in order. A couple of others such as Royal Purple are also reported to work...but as redline worked for me I didn't feel like experimenting.

try shifting into 1st, then reverse without releasing the clutch...this lets the non-synchro'd reverse (which is on the same shaft as 1st) match up to 1st. At least thats what I've encountered.

another little trick that works for me is to put light pressure on the stick into the rev position with the clutch fully in. Very slowly let the clutch up and it will drop right into gear before it will catch and engage.
What do you mean turn down the boost!? |
