I just purchased a 89 Turbo Automatic with 96,000 miles on it. I had to replace the springs and struts, changed all the fluids and generally go over the car. The one thing I can't find is there is a grinding sound/feeling coming from the rear of the car when I first take off or back up after the car has been sitting. Almost like the rear brakes a grabbing. I don't notice it after I am driving and normal stop and go only when I first start the car and take off. When I replaced the rear struts everything seemed to be tight. Any suggestions.

I would check the parking break and the parking brake cable. I had a problem with them grinding before and found out they were adjusted wrong.

I have not checked that yet but would it matter since I never use the hand brake.

It would matter because if it was too tight it would be grabbing all the time no matter if you use the parking brake or not. I would check the differential fluid, does the car have a limited slip differental? You can tell if it has the headlight squirters in the bumper then it does have the lsd. Check fluid level and make sure it is not dirty. If you need to change the fluid, which you probablly do, Make you add some limited slip friction modifier. This may not fix your problem as you might have an issue with the clutches in the lsd unit, but its a cheap start that probablly needs to be done anyway.

I just adjusted the brake, it was to tight. But while under there I checked oaround. Found a lot of play in the center bearing and some clunking in the rear when I move the drive shaft by hand. I just had the rear fluid change and they said it looked ok no metal. I guess if it is the rear I have a spare N/A Limited slip I could put in but that would change the gear ratio.

SmileBye the way thanks for all the help, I know everyone here has had lots of experience with these cars and that helps when trying to figure stuff like this out.
