I have the 4;30 lsd, from a n/a sport,I heard a clunk from the rearend,I thought it was probably my cv joints needed to be replaced,so i replaced them, checked my center support bearing to looked fine for now.(i plan getting a one pc aluminum driveshaft),uv joints looked ok no play,I noticed the diff i have has some play in it,like a 1/2" maybe before initial load.when i have the car lifted and i turn the tires real hard i can make the clunk noise. Its getting worse ,when i drive now the rearend makes a rubbing noise constantly even in neutral, like a rotating type noise. In fact when i get on the gas or sometimes when i take turns it mellows the sound out a lil. I have been working on my supra for like a yr and a half other than my haynes manual, and online i have no instructer or ever worked on a car b4 and yes i mean oil changes,I bought this car to teach myself,I have been getting robbed for oh too long on repair shops.Any suggestions on what this could be other than my differential??? I have looked for aftermarket differentials but havent found anything.I plan to run between 5-700rwhp in the future,so i would like to find something maybe i could get that would hold that kinda power without ever having to worry about breaking ever again.I really like my 4;30lsd and i was wondering if its possable for somebody to maybe rebuild that one to hold more power and who?? zoom zoom
thanks

First off, 5-700 rwhp is a lot, I hope you have a lot of money. but its a great goal, and I hope you make it.

There are some aftermarket diffs for this car, but not too many that ive ever seen. Your best bet is finding a used one, or getting new internals for the one you have.

Not sure what else could be clunking, did you chekc the fluid level? chekc the brakes to make sure they are nto sticking. from there on i would say it is the diff and you need a new one.

good luck
Joe

ya i know 5-700 is alot ,thats why i bought a supra!!!the diff has play in it,when i turn the wheels w/the car lifted the wheels turn a lil bit b4 the driveshaft turns if i go back in forth the where the driveshaft meets the diff makes a clunk noise.I did check the fluid and its full, How much HP does a stock differential hold???and do they make a rebuild kit??

1st a stock diff can hold as long as it has oil and good sets of shocks and struts. Bad struts and shocks=wheel hoping. I dont know y youre diff is doing what its doin but that might be a good start. Or, theres an oil starvation. I messed up my diff cause I wasnt directed to the burnout box correctly. Now I open my door, get out and make sure that I am over it. As far as rebuilding goes, cost too much, buying and aftermarket like TRD? $750 with a dealership discount. However, a less expensive route, call me 702) 876-8406 and I can get you a diff that will can handle up to 800whp.
