Well, to my amazement, I have a very notchy feeling shifter and thus a little bit of grind from 1-2 and 2-3, but ONLY when it is warmed up and running hard.

This goes completely against my previous 5 speeds where as very cold climates would cause this.

The tranny came w/ my engine, which has about 48K miles on it, and it is filled w/ MOBIL1 synthetic gear oil at toyota specs.

I have been double clutching to avoid the grinding, ...is it the fluid or am I afflicted with a bad tranny?

Fluid. Switch to redline MT-90 or MTL. I've found most other synth to be a little too "slippery" and syncro problems came up. Went to redline and the crunches went away.

Thank you. Ive been wondering if this was normal. Mine has been doing this and I wasn't sure. It never did grind but it was just hard to shift. Like the tolerances got really tight because of the cold or somthing??

apparently its all about keeping those synchros happy...cold parts are naturally more sluggish to move around...it must be this cold nature that keeps my synthetic filled gearbox from being notchy in the morning...weird!
