it sounds to me that you have air in your clutch hydraulic system. (and when you said it wouldn't move, you were probably in neutral because you can't put the car in gear with too much air in the system)

try bleeding the clutch slave cylander and let us know what happens.

I'm currently experiencing this problem. I can high rev my vehicle to 5,000 rpm's and it will come to a slow crawl in first and/or reverse. I dare not try the other gears for fear of causing further problems.

I just attempted to bleed the clutch. While doing this I noticed that the break fluid used for the slave cylinder was not really jetting out, even when I had it fully opened. I tried this with the vehicle turned on and running. I also tried it with the vehicle turned off.

I don't know if it is the clutch itself or something inside that is preventing the vehicle from properly running.

It is a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo. Withless than 100,000 miles on it. I am certain that it is probably the orriginal clutch in it still. So, if possible any advice would be appreciated greatly.

tek- sounds like your clutch is smoked. and for reference, it doesn't matter if the car is on or off when you bleed the clutch. much more safe if it's off, though. Wink

YOU'RE AWESOME SHAEF!

I am greatful to get some advice on this matter. Thank goodness I have some idea what to look for now.

The only problem is that... I really don't know how to change the clutch out.

I do have the Toyota Supra 1988 Service Manual... but, It all seems like rocket science to me.

Has anyone already posted something on how to change a clutch? Is there any easy way to do it?

So far, all I've heard is that I'm gonna have to completely drop the transmission to change it out... this is just by talking to other people.

I don't know... once again, any advice is welcomed advice.

Thankyou again Shaeff.

Smile no problem.

yes, you need to drop the transmission to do a clutch job.

drain the tranny gear oil, pull the front driveshaft, remove the slave cylander, remove the "wing brackets" from the block of the car to the tranny, remove the 4 bolts (two up top are difficult to reach), pull the clutch fork, and it's out.

it's not easy, but it's certainly not difficult either. Smile

make sure you have a jack under the transmission to help you lift it to the ground (and don't kill yourself!)

i'll look for a full writeup for you.

To add to what shaeff said:

Disconnect your speedometer cable running into the tranny on the right side. DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY. You will be disconnecting your starter so this is VERY important unless getting shocked is just your thing. Also, I found that jacking up the front of the engine made the top two a little easier to reach from underneath the car.

Once you've done everything ^ we will let you know where to go from there. And, if you have the money now would be a good time to purchase a lightend flywheel b/c you will be right there at it.

I am sincerely greatful to you all for helping me out with all this useful info. I can't thankyou all enough.

Sadly, I am slapping in an OEM clutch and more than likely I'm gonna put in an OEM flywheel.

I currently lack funds to go for the high performance stuff right now. As my my money goes to paying stupid bills, food, clothing for son, toys for son, and whatever else my wife buys... can't figure women out, nor what she is spending all my money on... HA!

Hopefully when I re-enlist into the Army and get a bonus... I will have enough then... to invest into a single piece aluminum drive shaft, a stage 2 clutch, and super light flywheel. Not forgetting to get all the other basics for a head gasket replacement, turbo upgrade, and intercooler upgrade.

I'm just sick of my car sitting there doing nothing! It's driving me NUTS! Especially when I have to drive my wife's VW Golf... IT'S NOT THE SAME!!! IT'S NOT FAIR! I wanna drive my supra again!

Anyhow, I've researched on the many "cheap things" I can do for now to get up to 400 hp. Cheap meaning under $5,000 in one blow. That should be more than enough to get all the wonderful parts to make my car a worthy adversary to the many wanna-be's out here.

I'm in North Carolina... and... well... it's sad... to say the least. So many IDIOTS investing in body kits and sound systems. OH YES! That sound system definately adds an extra 150 hp alright Wink Then there are those with the STICKER CRAZE... where it seems like each sticker adds some 5~15 hp.

I CAN'T STAND IT! While driving my Supra around I could toast so many of these kids around here. Of course there are a few "REAL" car enthusiasts around here... but I've yet to see a car club for Supra's.

It's all about the engine work first... then the body and interior. That's what I think.

Sorry for ranting. Once again thankyou for ya'll kindness and help.

Respectfully,
Ace

Also, I intend on going to the On-post Auto Shop. I'm in Ft. Bragg and they have a "do it yourself" auto shop over here.

They let you rent out a bay with a lift and all the tools you could ever need to fix a car.

Hopefully I can get started on this next week.

I would do it this weekend... but I intend on getting drunk on Saturday for my b-day.

Alright... thankyou all again.

Cheers!
