does anybody know why my car is stalling when I engage the clutch? It stalls when its in neutral, or in gear, and only when the clutch fork BEGINS to engage the throw out bearing and throughout the travel of the pedal.

There is also a grinding noise.

I have the transmission off, and all parts appear to be in good condition and assembled correctly.

The only suggestion I could give would be to check your master and slave cylinders for leaks. Mine were leaking and the same problem you are having occured. Also, you say everything appears to be in good shape. When you pulled it did you happen to notice if the snap rings were good. I had one pop off and it caused the same problem you are having because the pressure plate wasn't on all the way. Eventually the plate just fell off the it wouldn't work at all. I'd replace the snap rings while it's out anyways, you know, cheap insuracne. Well anywasys, I hope you get it figured out. Good luck, and hoped I helped but the stalling in nuetral thing makes me think I didn't.

For the sake of saving time, here it is:

It started when the clutch would stall the engine when engaged. I had no idea why, but I guessed it was my throw out bearing. Negative, ghostrider. The actual force of all components in my block rubbing aft (mostly the main pulley) was stalling the engine. Now, im up in arms on if I want to reinstall this pressure plate. Im thinking that a lighter pressure substitute may be in order.

The thrust bearing was smashed, and the backside of two of them is black. My machinist says this is indicitive of oil starvation/ heat. Installed was a max series RPS (not that the brand is to blame) clutch. Somebody mentioned, and im thinking this is quite possible, that the pressure of me starting the car with the clutch engaged may have started this catastrophe. But, the thrust bearing went out while I was racing a firechicken - not while I was starting the car. Well, here are the pics of my engine with less than 1000 miles on the whole damn thing before it took a shit:

Thrust bearings just they way I found them:
