I have an 86.5 with about 200K miles on it... but I still believe that tranny has life left in it

the auto tranny has begun to stick in gear as if the throttle is WFO... won't shift into 4th until 75-80 ... also, when in reverse it acts as if it has lost a tooth no a gear... some mild skipping

I am sure somebody has had this problem before... did you just drop in a new tranny?

just a little background... this tranny was "overhauled" by someone within the last 50K miles... don't know what that means, just told to me by previous owner

problem diagnosed by local Toyo repair shop... dufus there said he was sure it is the tranny, but didn't bother to mention that the tranny has an extra quart in it ... hummmmm... wonder what that does to shift points?

your help/opinion will be treated with the respect and care that free info should typically be accorded :>

okay... problem #1 is solved

started reading the TSRM... realized the best way to diagnose trouble is to start by unplugging the tranny computer... did so and many of the troubles went away... this says the troubles are mostly electronic

started next with a simple check of the throttle sensor... sure enough, it was stuck about half way through the turn and read 5vdc... the computer was reading that the pedal was mostly to the metal most of the time... car started shifting normally after adjustment

still experiencing a major jolt when putting the tranny into drive "KER-CHUNCK"... anyone know if this has something to do with the lockup solenoid?

I will continue to follow and post results

Sometimes.

Overfilling the trans can ruin it in a hurry.

Just by the book, harsh engagement is Throttle cable out of adjustement, valve body or primary regulator faulty, accumalator pistons faulty, transmission faulty.

In Tressel we trust.
