I have a 5-speed 89 and an 88 auto both N/A wondering if it would really be that difficult to do the swap over to Stick with my Auto. the 89's body and engine is *%$#'ed as of last night ( blowing sparks out of the exaust, sounding like a lawnmower, not going over 30mph and the exaust was RED HOT).
If i could get some advice or if its just THAT difficult. (p.S.) pulling motor in the Auto anyway Supra... *drool* 88T *dead* 89n/a New baby |

from what I understand, no, it's not difficult. I'm about to do it on my 89 turbo, it's auto and I'm gonna put in my 87 turbo 5spd. On the turbo it's a different driveshaft, 1 of the wing brackets is different and there's a few extra wires from the auto that you just tie up under the dash (3 for auto, 1 for manual), and obviously the clutch assembly (slave cylinder, master cylinder, hard line, soft line) and brake pedal (manual pedal is much skinnier)..somebody correct me if I'm wrong

did it by myself in my garage. if you are mechanically inclined you should be ok. This was the first time ive ever pulled a tranny. word of advice, gather all the parts before you tear into your car.
off the top of my head the things you will need.... -tranny (duh) and bellhousing if its not on the tranny -shifter -if you can snag a manual trans console with boot that would be sweet -driveline -flywheel (I used a Fidanza) -clutch (I went ACT) -clutch master cylinder -clutch slave cylinder -rubber or braided softline (chassis to tranny) -hardline (master to soft line) -Bellhousing bolts from toyota (Manual tranny bolts are longer) -pressure plate bolts from toyota -lower dust shield from toyota (the N/A is a half inch to short on the drivers side. if you have 2 NA plates you can get creative and make it work.) -driver side wing bracket -brake pedal -clutch pedal with hanger I couldnt get my cruise to work though i really didnt try. taking it out cleans up the engine bay anyhow. You will have to rewire your ABS which i havent done yet you will also have to jumper the other plug that acts like a neutral start switch for automatics. I spent at least $1700 doing the swap. and thats the big stuff and stuff from toyota. That doesnt count random trips to the parts shop. if there is anything i missed tell me and if you have a question let me know Tony |

Ohio sux for supra's...I looked for 9 months before I bought one. The only one I can think of is an 89 na 5spd fully set up for auto-x, but the engine is toast. And it's not cheap. body's strait, slammed to the ground on some wide expensive tires, full exaust no cats, rear strut bar, and a FULL roll cage. i'm talking the nascar roll cage. I was thinking about getting it and dropping in a stock 7m-gte and just using it for drag/drift/auto-x. I have a shell...or half of a shell. It's more or less gutted, and the front end is really really bad, if you look at my car-domain site you'll see it, it's maroon, I think there's 1 picture of it.

I'm kinda working on my auto-5spd swap while doing other things. I got the pedals and master/slave cylinders out of the other car, and the clutch has 2 buttons, one for when the pedal is pressed, and one for when it is not. i'm assuming these have something to do with starting the car? (pedal has to be pressed to start the car?) is there any way to wire these into the auto ecu? or can I live without them?

boy, I suck at wiring. I read that 3 times and I still don't get it. SO, when doing the 5spd swap the car won't start, no backup lights, no cruise control, and no neutral start. Correct? That info tells how to get the car to start and how to get the backup lights to work. does anybody know how to get the cc and ns to work? haha. I'm an idiot at electronics.
