Hello, I took my car in for an oil change the other day, and when mr lube removed the check fill bolt on my diff for a fluid level check, some threads came out. They say theres only one thread left holding it it and im now the proud owner of a leaky diff. Took it to a transmission shop to get it re-tapped and they say its too thin and they dont want to risk it.
A new plate from toyota is ~$240. A toyota parts rep, unconvincingly told me that all diff plates are the same regardless of which of the billion kinds of diff Supras come with. All the local wreckers wont sell me a plate, and one has offered an 86.5 diff for $200. Someone made a suggestion of welding a nut on the outside of the plate and just put a bolt in that. seems a little hokey to me. Any suggestions or info regarding diff compatability would be appreciated. 1988 Supra Turbo - 5 speed - Intake - Full 3" exaust with custom turbo elbow - Monza bov - generic MBC @ 12psi |

A diff plate from any '86.5-92 supra will fit. The only changes were in the gears.
Try searching the supramania.com for sale section. Look up a guy named tubbie, tell him i sent you, and ask for the part you need. He probably has it, and might be willing to separate it from the diff for you. If you can find a good welder, that idea will work, but I'd rather not chance it. |
