I just bought an 89 NA 5spd and the tranny shifts good and goes through all the gears without problems but even when it's in gear there just seems to be a lot of free play in the shifter. You can still wiggle it around a lot like it's in neutral when it's actually in gear. I think it's just a worn bushing or something in the actual shifter assembly itself. I was thinking about doing the short shift mod from supras.com and I know that they give you info for the replacement bushings when you're doing the mod. So I was just wondering if I did the short shift mod if that would take care of the slop? I think that's all that's wrong, but I was just wondering what everyone else thought.

yes. we call it "the green truck shifter gasket/bushing", actually Smile

it tightens up the play A LOT! my sogi short shift used to rattle like crazy, until i put this in. now it's damn quiet, no more rattling, no excessive freeplay.

here, just call your dealership and tell them you need these. it's damn cheap.
