You know that whining sound cars make when they back up?
I get that in 1st and 2nd gear, not as bad as in reverse, but its noticeable. Also when downshifting into 2nd it pops right back out of gear when I let the clutch out sometimes unless I match the RPMs PERFECTLY (and even then sometimes still pops out). Is this because of the clutch? I can't launch either, I know it needs a new clutch for sure, I just hope it doesn't involve the tranny too. I think I'm losing a lot of power in my tranny/clutch. It feels like it should pull harder than it does, however, I did JUST buy it a month ago and have no other supras to make a reference against.

Any thoughts??

well getting use to driving the car can make it feel like it doesnt have power like it use to.

as far as popping out of gear and whining.

Probably the synchros in the tranny.

Clutch wouldn't make it POP out of gear, it would stay in gear, just not go anywhere.

Thats why you got to be easy on the hard shits, and easy on the downshifts.

Thats a manufacturers defect. The toyota transmissions even on the new tundras have the same defect with the transmission. Alot of people have had their trannys changed by toyota for that purpose. If your car isnt under warranty any longer then your basically fucked.

I concur with this ! And he definately is outa warranty !!

The syncros ARE bad. I've found this problem on other makes of cars when they have a lot of miles, or have been abused too much. = rebuild time, cause it will only get worse.

And a couple of cars got "stuck" in one gear, and you could not get it out. They drove it to the shop like that.

You always have to drive it and hear it to know for certain.

But reverse whines because of the way the gear is cut. If 1st or 2nd do it, the gears could have a chipped tooth. That is just from abuse.

have you ever seen the size of a R154?? put it next to a borg-warner T5 out of a crustang or a camaro. I have hammered on the trans in both my turbo cars and no probs. Im not sure what they top out at but if the w58 box will hold 400 horse what do you think the R154 will hold.

and beside the powerglide is only a 2 speed. and in stock form they are junk.
build the crap out of em and they are super tuff (but still 2 speed)
