Okay, I just completed the sogi short shifter mod yesterday. I tried the search but came up with nothing so help me. After "breaking" the shifter apart, I couldn't use the old shift knob. Some guys advised me to use an aftermarket/universal shift knob, but I like the old knob. I thought of rethreading the shifter, but it's pointless as the diameter of the shifter is smaller than the opening of the knob. I just clamped the sucker on temporarily, but would like to know what some of you guys did to remedy this problem.
Thax in advance

Will

I didn't do it, but i was thinking about doing this. Taking what is left of the shifter (the shortened part), getting another piece of metal, and having a muffler shop weld them together. Then take threaded part and weld it on top of that. I measured it out and the way i wanted to do it, it came out like 1/2" taller than the sogi method. Maybe you can try it. If so, let me know how it works.

Thanks mikeyb. yes I highly recommend the short shifter mod! It works great. But the way I ghetto-rigged the knob on seems to be working fine for now.
Thanks again mike.

i sure did this too! works great. to put the old knob back on i cut the stick down a LITTLE more than the mod calls for, then welded a piece of pipe over it, (very securley) and used a large tap and die set to thread the pipe. bam... old knob/ stock look, no long shifter!

I'm going to do the mod, someday, LOL. I've been really busy with my job and still finding time to get all the other things that I bought on. You see my list of mods? From the Lexus AFM down was all done by me in 2 weeks while working 8 hours a day. Well, save for building the turbo. But I installed it!! I'll tell you, I recommend the mods I've done. Just looking for a dyno and waiting for my friend to get his gears put on his Mustang 5.slow. Then I'm off to the tracks to smoke his ass. Well WB4F, I'm glad things are working out for you with the knob. Shaeff, thanks for the die idea, I hadn't event thought of that.

hey shaeff, i was wondering what size die you used. I would really like to do this now that it is so easy. The idea in i had in my mind was way too complex.

MIKEY B. sorry for the late reply! i dont remember what size die i used, it was last year. i have a pretty bad memory. if you still have the top portion of your shifter, just find a die that threads onto it easily, make sure the pipe is the same thickness as the rest of the shifter, then that'll give you the correct thread size. remember to back the die off constantly so you dont clog it up w/ metal shavings, and use a bit of oil on it to help it along too. thats what i did. hope this helps!
