The shift on my 88 turbo kinda moves up/down and a bit to the sides when I'm driving at high speeds, especially on slightly uneven roads. Is this normal, or is my tranny loose or something? I don't hear any noise, the shifter just moves, I thought it was kinda wierd.

A manual has some shake to it. You cant read in a post if its too much or not. The shake should be very light. An automatic shouldnt shake at all. The 'shifter' doesnt shift gears, it controls the valve body position.

The movement is normal, so I was told. I think if the trans mounts were totally solid, they would break. Here's something. Put a dixie cup or coffee cup over the shifter. I acts as a megaphone, and you hear wierd stuff, but it's normal. Don't worry about it.

I just noticed.....my shift knob leans towards the passenger side of the car. Isn't it supposed to be straight up? it's about 5-6 degrees to the right. Could my transmission or something be loose?
