Anybody out there done a rebuild on an R154? Doing an engine swap after xmas and, since it's taking 3x as long as planned anyway, might as well cover all of my bases. Already planning on (with the JDM engine) new motor mounts and clutch package. Mine has ~120k on it, and works OK, but it'll never be easier than when the guts of the car on the workbench...

I was just curious if there was a rebuild kit (syncros, especially) or if it's a painful/piecemeal endeavour. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Zeke

It works great, all my shifts feel crisp, after a few hundred miles of break in (mostly for the new clutch and flywheel).

I had mine done - in contrast with my signature - by a professional transmission shop. It cost approximately 400 bucks, parts and labor. Most of the components arent changed, only the synchros (2nd and 3rd) I didnt have the facilities or tools at the time - oh well.

Fix it yourself or don't drive it!!

I'm planning to rebuild an extra R154 I have on the side and put it on when I change my clutch. Can you get me a list of parts? did you or your friend do it for you?

my buddy did everything, I didn't have the time or the desire to try to tear it apart and put it back together. I will try to ask if he recalls the parts or numbers. You can always look at FSM and or call toyota.
