1988 turbo 5 speed. new clutch. Its hard to near impossible to shift in reverse every now and then. I let off the clutch pedal and try it agian sometimes it takes 2 times but it eventually gets there. And when i shift thru all gears it feels like i'm not pushing the clutch in all the way cause its notchy(dunno how to word it) but i do push it down all the way. Also when i shift into reverse it grinds sometimes. I have changed the tranny fluid and added a little lucas tranny slip in it. helped for a while. Any suggestions? thanks

Reversed isnt synchronized.

When in neutral, disengage the clutch, then engage it, then disengage it, then put it in reverse.

Check the carpeting under the pedal. If it is notchy and the clutch was just changed, I think there wasnt any antisieze put on the input shaft. That is what it sounds like anyway.

Like Nick said, reverse isn't syncyronized. The only thing that could make it more difficult to engage reverse is a clutch disengagement issue. That would jive with a general "notchy" feel to the rest of the gears as well. Master or slave cylinder leaking?

Nope no leaks i check my fluids daily. I thought it was either the master or slave going out? who know might need to change both for good measure.

What I do when I can't get my car in reverse is put it in first then pull forward a little bit, then it slides easliy into reverse. Works everytime!
