1990 n/a > turbo with manual w58 tranny. Was driving down the hwy and started to hear clicking which grew to a clanking so I pulled over to see what was wrong. It clicks in neutral with the clutch engaged. Sound gets greater with more RPM. Pressing the clutch down stops the noise.The clutch feels normal which makes me think its in the tranny. Tryed to drive off but the transmisson felt locked. Any idea whats going on? And if so, whats the best solution, if expensive I'd rather swap for a R154. Thanks.

I dont know much about the tranny problems, but i know what mine did when I went through a clutch. It sounds similar. I would take off the side plate and look at the throw out bearing and make sure it spins freely. if not, you may want to get a new clutch fast.. put some bearing grease on it if you need to drive a short distance, but i wouldnt drive it.

hey, my friend had that happen to him in his neon expresso and when he tryed to keep driving it the clutch went to the floor, so he didnt know what was wrong maybe it was the linkage or something but when he had someone take a look at it there was a nice crack down the middle of the tranny.. so have someone look at it before you start driving it again..good luck with it - mike
