Hi guys !
This is my first post here, and i'm glad to be a member of this great forum. I don't own a Supra yet, but i have intentions to get one next summer. It's 80% sure that i will have the car by June. I've done a lot of reading about supras and i really can't think of anything better to buy. Since i'm not all tech guy i have few questions for you that might sound silly to you Anyway 1) Is a BPU kit really all that ? Are the 460HP realistic or is that achieved in all the optimum conditions that one could want 2) If i upgrade the turbos or convert to songle, do i have to have the BPU kit installed ? If yes, then all the parts or just some BPU parts ? 3) If i get a new turbokit, what else do i need to buy besides turbokit ? Will other parts of the car be able to handle the new power ? I was thinking of the SP57 turbokit. So can i just purchase it and have it installed ? 4) What's the reliability of a Supra ? I own a 2.2 Turbo QUattro Audi S4 right now that has over 300HP and that car just keeps falling apart, in the last six months i'vwe changed the clutch, the transmission, a/c needed repairs and so on. Is that what's Supra is like too ? I hope you could answer these, since i always try to find the answers on the web and avoid asking, don't know if i didn't look hard enough or there really is no documentation about these issues. Thanks in advance, Renar from Estonia Must...get...Supra..... |

I have about 147k on my car. only things that went are the turbos from boosting the piss out of them, the radiator gasket failed, waterpumpgasket failed and my starter. Opps and my antenna. Everthing lasted over 100k miles. starter radiator and waterpump happened over 130miles. Mind you waterpump did not fail, the gasket did.
Go to www.mkiv.com that should have a wealth of info for you to read into. Happy boosting. |

quote: That is under somewhat optimal conditions. Depending on conditions power may fluctuate from a low of 400hp up 460-ish. A Front Mount Intercooler will help with fluctuations. quote: Yes, you will need the BPU parts, but none of those parts will go to waste when you install a single. quote: That depends. You will need DP, BCC, Boost Controller, and Exhaust (BPU). You COULD install a SMALL single such as the SP57 with just those parts. However, at the minimum I would recommend getting a front mount intercooler and a fuel controller. You will also need a high performance clutch quote: Overall, the Supra is pretty damn reliable, things will break, but not very often. quote: Check out our FAQ Section quote: Mike T 94 Supra TT 6spd "Silly ricer, synchros are for kids" |

You will not NEED a downpipe at first if you are planning on going with a single turbo kit from Sound Performance fairly soon. Their kits come with a downpipe, so no need on wasting the money on a downpipe if your gonna convert to single turbo within a month or so. Any turbo kit, I suggest a front mount intercooler, but first start off by going BPU (minus the downpipe and intake if you plan on going single turbo from sound performance anytime soon, as their kits include intake and downpipe - but if your not going to be going single soon, and would like the power gains as the downpipe especially gives you a nice sound/power gain, then go ahead and buy one and sell if when you go single and only loose a little money. But hey! If your getting a supra, be prepared to loose a few hundred here, and a few hundred there as modding your dawg can become quite addicting, plus keeping up with insurance) but get the BPU parts, especially the Boost cut control, exhaust, boost controller and if you want a downpipe and intake. But like I said before, you wont need the downpipe and intake if you do plan on going with the SP57 as the kit does come with those parts. But yea, front mount intercooler, I think, is a must for any single turbo.

I suggest you go BPU first. NOt sure what fast cars you have driven etc. but a bpu car is very fast and you need to learn how the boost works and how it comes on line if you want to drive safe. I also suggest you get a downpipe too. YOu can find used ones for under $200 at times and that there is an easy 30-40hp.
