It depends. Do you want a good street car, or are you racing Le Mans and other circuit tracks? The only reason Top Secret made the gold one with a 3sgte was because that engine was substantially lighter and they are pretty strong. It was built for circuit.

Hope that helped, Johann

The 3S a good engine with some good potential, but if you're starting out with the 2JZ I would keep it. You can get more power (cheaper) out of a 2J than you can a 3S. But then again it all depends on what you are after...

or if your racing the NHRA circuit and you want to utilize the fact that you can have a lighter weight car with a 4 cylinder engine. Although for this to work best in your favor you gotta make as much power as you can with the 2jz which for Titan would be very hard to get those #'s out of a 3S

Thanks

the gold 3s-gte 200mph supra was insane, but not very practical. it was made just for that high speed run. a 2jz-gte would be alot better for most applications.

If you have money to spend, it would be really interesting. Remember all the JGTC Supras use the 3SGTE too. And one won the GT500 last year! =)

i thought that the JGTC supras switched to the supra's inline-6 after a few years. i know that the JGTC supras from early production years (93-95) used the eagle engine from the 1st gen MR-2.

but yeah, i agree, if you swap, make sure you get the supra NA and then tune the 3S-GTE cuz the supra body is still heavy. the 3S-GTE is also used in most toyota transplants because of the better weight distribution.

Nope. JGTC Supras still use the 3S-GTE:

Actually the JGTC Supras do not use the 3S-GTE .

They use a motor loosely based on a 3SGTE . Known as the 503e . Its a pupose built/designed track motor . The head and block are totally different than anything that comes in the MR2 / Celica All-Trac .

Also the 1st gen MR2 has a 4A-GELU or 4A-GZE The SW20 MK2 MR2's came with 3S-GTE's as well as 5S-FE's and in Japan some came with 3S-GE's .

Hope that helps smile

heres some stuff i found over at toysport.

Toyota Motor Corp. directly supplied some Japanese Toyota Race Teams with fully built engines (TOM's, TRUST, SARD, ...... ) that these race teams further tuned externally. Through the years, engines supplied included the original 2TG/18RG based race units, the 16 valve 150 versions, the 4TGTEs, and the 503E engines. Previously used in Le Mans, the 503Es are currently used in the Japan Touring Series. The TOM's developed production-based 3SGEs are the most successful versions of the engine series (in Formula racing applications) are not TMC issue.

so basically all the supras but toms run the 503e. this info might be a little old so its possible toyota quit supplying the 503es to the teams and so they all run 3sgtes.
